As I reflect on the remarkable 4 year journey as a founding member of the Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone (TASEZ) and subsequent board member who initially conceptualized (under stewardship of Jeff Nemeth) this integrated manufacturing cluster, presented to the Provincial Government in 2015/16 and later to the National Government in 2018, I will forever be proud of our achievements in exemplifying best practices in Public-Private-Partnerships. We surpassed our core group's initial objectives of positioning South Africa as a global automotive manufacturing hub. By catalyzing the local economic potential of Ford's USD 1.05 Billion capital investment, we successfully achieved our goals of fostering sustainable jobs/income generation, expanding tier-1 & tier-2 supplier networks, enhancing value chain integration, and stimulating adjacent township economies. This aligns seamlessly with the 2035 National Automotive Master Plan (#SAAM2035) deepening localization efforts and attracting incremental global OEM suppliers. The impact of TASEZ has been transformative to date: • R3.92 Billion in government investment • R5.6 Billion in private sector investment • 5,105 construction jobs and 3,333 permanent jobs created • R1.7 Billion in SMME procurement, benefiting 265 SMMEs • 370 SMMEs trained, with 43% of construction spend directed to these enterprises. Due to the increased demand brought about by TASEZ phased expansion, increased multimodal logistical capacity & synergy were required. Which led to the idea of a South-rail corridor project, currently a national landmark project. As I conclude my tenure as a non-executive director on the TASEZ Board, I depart with a sense of pride in our collective achievement. A Sprint to Remember: FMCSA's 5km Ford Ranger Dash! On Friday, November 1st, FMCSA fired up excitement with the inaugural 5km Ford Ranger Dash—a fun run held right through our very own manufacturing facility in Silverton, Pretoria.
