WATCH | Ian Munro from Legitimate Leadership discusses the importance of trust and leadership in fostering accountability and responsibility among team members. 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 • Trust is essential for organisational success. • Leaders should focus on giving, not just getting. • High standards drive better results than mere target increases. • Effective communication about purpose builds trust. • Empowerment leads to ownership and accountability. • Engage in discussions and debates to enhance learning. • Intent matters: leaders must prioritise team welfare. 𝘒𝘦𝘺 𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 • Trust as a Foundation: High trust levels within a team enhance collaboration and ownership, essential for navigating change effectively. Organisations with trust can pivot quickly without extensive change management. • Inverted Leadership Role: Leadership should shift from merely achieving results to fostering team growth, ensuring the well-being of team members is prioritised over results. • Empowerment vs. Control: Empowerment should be viewed as an end goal. Leaders enabling team members with the right tools and knowledge fosters a sense of ownership that drives accountability. • Focus on Standards, Not Results: Improving performance is about raising the standards of personal accountability rather than just increasing targets. This shift leads to sustainable results. • Intent and Fairness: Leaders must demonstrate genuine care and fairness to build a culture where accountability is welcomed, not feared. This promotes a supportive environment. • Communication is Key: Clear communication about expectations and the rationale behind tasks is vital for team alignment and trust, making it easier for team members to take ownership. • Global Applicability: The principles addressed are relevant across various organisational sizes and types, highlighting the universal need for effective leadership and trust. https://lnkd.in/dM7UApc8

Civitas is a private network for high-growth founders in South Africa.
About us
We believe honest entrepreneurs are a force for good in the world. They serve their customers, pay taxes, create jobs and ultimately raise everyone’s living standard. Civitas was started to help these entrepreneurs succeed. Our model was developed from 10-years of research including 1000s of studies, 100s of interviews and years of experimentation. While doing the research we found that top venture capital companies, CEO networks and entrepreneurial communities could increase a founders odds of success by up to 100x. Excited by our findings we took the best ideas and created Civitas. The result is a low cost and time efficient way to help founders with what they need most. 1. Practical know-how on how to grow their business and solve challenges. 2. Warm introductions to the right people, such as, customers, investors, suppliers, etc. 3. Ongoing nudges to help founders and CEOs level up. This has meant that many Civitas members doubled, tripled and even 5x their revenue in the first year of joining the community. Some say our focus on growth is misguided. We disagree. We believe the faster you grow, the more people you serve and the greater your contribution to the world. Our challenge to all entrepreneurs: grow faster, serve more and help build a better world.

𝘒𝘦𝘺 𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 • IP is Essential: Understanding and managing intellectual property is crucial for building a successful business. Businesses can gain significant value by recognizing the importance of IP in their operations. • Knowledge Gap: Many entrepreneurs lack knowledge about IP, which can lead to costly mistakes. Educating oneself about IP enables better decision-making and risk management. • Value of Trademarks: Trademarks can be among the most valuable assets for a business, often representing brand identity and customer loyalty. Investing in trademark protection can yield long-term financial benefits. • Innovation & Protection: Filing for patents or copyrights can protect innovations, but entrepreneurs must be cautious about public disclosure before securing these rights. • Global Implications: IP protection varies by region; entrepreneurs must understand international laws and treaties to protect their assets globally. • Written Agreements: When outsourcing creative work, written agreements are crucial to ensure proper ownership of IP, preventing disputes down the line. • Misconceptions About Public Domain: Just because content is online doesn’t mean it’s free to use. Entrepreneurs must be vigilant against copyright infringement when sourcing materials from the internet. https://lnkd.in/d_RTsdzw

Co-Founder, Ferva & Pulse Motivation | Shaping Future Workplaces through Organisational Psychology & PeopleTech | Harnessing Our Expertise to Drive Real & Positive Change
Entrepreneurship can be tough – some days, it feels like you're juggling a thousand things at once and the weight of it all is overwhelming. I am blessed to have my business partner Bianca Toman, but together we have learned that we do not need to face it alone... I’m incredibly grateful to be part of Civitas Network, an organisation that’s been a game-changer for us! Every month, I meet with a group of incredible entrepreneurs who help me solve complex problems, share invaluable insights, and remind me that it’s okay to laugh at the crazy parts of the journey. Our group, expertly led by the amazing Paul Smith (who, by the way, thinks we’re the coolest group in Civitas – and who are we to argue? 😉), has become a lifeline for many of us. It's where we go to seek counsel, gain perspective, and get the support we need to keep moving forward. But it’s also where we let loose, have a laugh, and remind each other that we’re all in this together. We take what we do seriously, but not ourselves! I want to thank my "naughty kids" group Romy Heldsinger Merelda Wu Ross Fitzcharles Jaco Langner Jason Suttie for being a constant source of wisdom, love, inspiration, support, and also always big laughs and a great time! You guys are truly special, I have loved our time together this year - I value you and I am also so proud of what you have achieved this year. If you’re an entrepreneur looking for a safe space to grow, get advice, and have some fun along the way – I can’t recommend Civitas enough. It’s a game-changer and at times, a lifeline. You have built something great Ryan Osher and Paul! #Entrepreneurship #Civitas #Support #Community #Mentorship #Growth #EntrepreneurLife #Grateful
