Wonderful news for Burnet Media authors Lionel Reid and Lt-Col Eduardo González Sarría (in Cuba), along with illustrator Sean Thackwray: their superb book, "The MiG Diaries", has been longlisted for the Sunday Times Literary Awards 2024. Aerial warfare – in this instance, over Angola in the 1970s and 1980s – is not a genre that is often recognised in South African literary awards circles (!), so this one has come as something of a surprise to us all. Then again, the book has been incredibly well received in aviation circles, and my sense is that the judges may feel that it has transcended any narrow classification thanks to its blending of history, the technicalities of aerial combat and the humility and humanity that sees former military foes coming together in reconciliation decades after the fact. This was an incredible book to be a part of – one of my all-time favourites. Congrats and thank you to all involved. https://lnkd.in/dNgQwFV6 Jennifer Platt, Deborah Rudman, Ania Rokita, Sean Robertson, Simone Meyerowitz
