Your worth is not measured by your productivity or how much you’ve accomplished this year. As the year ends, take a moment to celebrate your growth, your resilience, and the moments that brought you joy. Let go of the pressure to "do more" and embrace the truth that you are enough just as you are. Let’s reframe how we view this time of year: 1. Instead of asking, “What did I achieve this year?” ask, “How did I grow as a person?” 2. Instead of dwelling on what wasn’t done, focus on what brought you joy, meaning, or connection. 3. Instead of striving for perfection, honour the effort and resilience you showed through challenges. How are you reframing success this year? Let’s talk about it! #ThePsychologyCouch #EndofYearMindset #YourAreEnough #NewYearNewMindset #SelfCare #achieve #yearend #2024 #2025 #heal #learn #grow #growth #reflection #newyear #productive #productivity

Studies at Johns Hopkins Children's Center have shown that video games created specifically for mental health interventions have been successful in treating the mental wellbeing of participants living with anxiety, depression and ADHD. Due to the increasing number of young people developing mental health related illnesses this is a relevant and effective way of reaching and treating the younger audience and fill a gap in the need for healthcare and the lack of access to it. Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine mention an important concern that is relevant to this finding and that is gaming addiction. A gaming addiction or internet gaming disorder, is when someone has a lack of control over gaming to the point where gaming takes over daily activities and daily activities for more than 12 month. Gaming addiction might be concerning when using gaming as a mental health treatment as users might abuse and be dependant on gaming and these interventions and the patient might begin to use the gaming intervention as an escape mechanism. This is also a concern as there might be some self-regulation difficulties and individuals might struggle to limit game time. #thepsychologycouch #mentalhealthnews #gaming #newintervention #heal #learn #grow #mentalhealth #gaming #videogames #anxiety #depression #adhd

Transgenerational trauma can be passed down through genetics, epigenetics, and social learning. Genetics: Trauma can change the way genes are expressed and these changes can be passed down to children. Epigenetics: Epigenetics is the study of how environmental factors can change gene expression without changing the DNA sequence itself. Trauma can cause epigenetic changes that can be passed down to children as well. Social learning: Children learn by observing the people around them. If a parent or other caregiver has experienced trauma, they may be more likely to pass on their trauma to their child through their behaviour and interactions. It is incredibly valuable to be able to recognise these behaviours and emotional reactions so as to deter the transfer of these traumas as well as to treat them. #ThePsychologyCouch #PsychologySouthAfrica #MentalHealthSouthAfrica #MentalHealth #generationaltrauma #transgenerationaltrauma #trauma #oppression

In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. However, the busyness of this time of year doesn’t have to lead to burnout. Beat the holiday burnout by: 🌟 Prioritizing self-care Carve out moments for yourself amidst the chaos. Whether it’s a quiet cup of tea, a relaxing bath, or a good book, small acts of self-care go a long way. 🌟 Set boundaries You don’t have to say "yes" to everything. Respect your limits and kindly decline tasks or events that feel overwhelming. 🌟Engage in exercise Move your body to recharge your mind! A brisk walk, yoga session, or even dancing to your favorite holiday playlist can boost your mood and energy. 🌟Seek support Lean on family, friends, or even a therapist for encouragement and understanding. Sharing the load makes the season brighter. 🌟Focus on what truly matters Let go of the pressure for perfection. Prioritize meaningful moments and traditions that bring genuine joy. 🌟Reflect and Adjust Check in with yourself regularly. If you’re feeling stretched thin, reassess and make changes to protect your peace. The holidays should be a time to celebrate, not a source of stress. 💚 #holidays #holidayburnout #burnout #festive #festiveseason #yearend #thepsychologycouch #heal #learn #grow #mentalhealth #wellness

A gentle reminder to let go of the harsh inner voice that questions your worth. ❤️🩹 Embrace self-compassion as you ask yourself what’s good for you. Work to accept yourself with kindness as you honour your needs and forgive yourself by recognising that your mistakes are not a reflection of your worth. You are enough just as you are! 💪 #selflove #selfcompassion #selfcriticism #criticism #mentalhealth #wellness #thepsychologycouch #heal #learn #grow #quote
