  • The Newmarket Economic Development Advisory Committee (NEDAC) met earlier this Fall at The Postmark Hotel for an engaging Community Branding session led by Stewart Colovin of MMGY Global, a world-renowned branding agency that specializes in destination marketing. As a vital advisory group in our Municipality, NEDAC provides Council and staff with strategic advice to promote balanced, long-term economic growth. Their expertise and dedication guide our efforts to continue positioning Newmarket as a destination of choice. In this session, as part of the Council’s Priority to create a differentiating Community Brand Strategy, NEDAC explored stories of heritage, entrepreneurship, personal growth and some powerful introspective analysis to help define Newmarket’s story. 💡 By highlighting Newmarket’s unique character and strengths, it supports efforts to attract new businesses, talent, and visitors while fostering a strong sense of pride in our community. This work is critical to building a cohesive brand that reflects who we are and where we’re headed. 🗣️ We are encouraging residents of #Newmarket to provide their insights to help shape our Community Brand strategy which will enhance the Town's reputation in Ontario and beyond, and continue to put us on the map. • It’s not every day we witness the opening of an international franchise! We’re excited to highlight the recent opening of Chick-fil-A Restaurants' newest location right here in Newmarket. Known for their delicious food 🍗 and strong community focus, Chick-fil-A joins our growing roster of businesses that call Newmarket home. Since entering the Canadian market in 2019, Chick-fil-A has opened over a dozen locations across Ontario, with Newmarket as one of the latest additions. This milestone highlights our Town’s success in creating a business-friendly environment that attracts top brands, supports investment, and fosters economic growth. 📈 We were pleased to learn that every Chick-fil-A restaurant in Canada participates in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program, partnering with Second Harvest to redistribute surplus food and combat hunger in local communities. Since 2019, this initiative has provided over 91,000 meals for Canadians in need. Chick-fil-A’s contributions were recently recognized at Second Harvest’s Food Rescue Awards in Ontario. Chick-fil-A also invests in its team, and proudly employs over 100 staff at the Newmarket location in various part-time and full-time positions. In 2024, 39 eligible Chick-fil-A Team Members in Canada were awarded Leadership Scholarships totaling $73,500, recognizing their dedication and hard work in school, the restaurant, and the community. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,500 per recipient which has significant local impact. Locally owned and operated, each Chick-fil-A restaurant focuses on building meaningful community connections while delivering exceptional service. 🤝 This welcome addition to Newmarket reinforces our commitment to fostering a community where businesses and residents thrive together. The pleasure is truly ours, as we celebrate Chick-fil-A’s expansion into our community! #NewmarketON #BusinessAttraction #InternationalBusiness #WelcomeChickfilA #CanadianExpansion

  • In October, our Planning Department invited Urban and Regional Planning University Students from Toronto Metropolitan University School of Urban and Regional Planning to participate and learn more about #Newmarket’s South of Davis Are Study (SODA)! 🏡 The SODA study evaluates the area of Main Street from Simcoe Street to Millard Avenue, between Niagara Street and the railway line. The purpose of this study is to set out a vision for this area’s redevelopment while incorporating appropriate policies and recommendations into the Official Plan Update – a policy that guides how land in Newmarket should be used. We took the students on a historic walk in the SODA study area while showcasing #Newmarket’s award-winning Main Street. We ended the day with the students participating in a design charette workshop for SODA. Thank you to the TMU students and Blair Scorgie for coming up to Newmarket for the day and providing your insight on your experience with the area, how we can better preserve or enhance the heritage buildings and landscapes, what types of housing would fit in the area, and future development opportunities. Your feedback will be incorporated into the SODA Study. Follow along and learn more about the SODA Study at: https://lnkd.in/gP2BiPRE #UrbanPlanning #OfficialPlan

  • Dear Newmarket, and friends… We hope you had a safe, and Happy Halloween 🎃 Did you remember to check your kids’ candy bags? 🍫 If you found any Mars Bars, MALTESERS®, Musketeers, Milky Way, Rockets® OR Double Lollies in their stash this morning – there’s a good chance they were made right here in #Newmarket! Did you know? #Newmarket is home to two major Confectionery Manufacturers that produce chocolates and candies for local, and international markets. The Mars Wrigley Confectionery on Harry Walker Parkway produces 80% of North America’s MALTESERS® Chocolates by MARS Canada. The 60,000 square foot facility produces this sweet treat 24 hours a day and seven days a week! Approximately 7.5 million MALTESERS® will are crafted daily – that’s about 83 chocolate treats per Newmarket resident! How’s that for a Halloween score? Here’s an interesting one… Did you know that Rockets® are known as Smarties® in the U.S.? 🍬Ce De Candy Company, locally known as Rockets Candy Limited started making candy on Queen Street in downtown Toronto back in 1963. In 1988, they moved to their current location in Newmarket to increase production of Rockets®. Today, the family-owned company is run by the founder’s granddaughters, producing Rockets® (or Smarties® in the U.S.) 24/7 at factories in Union, New Jersey, and here in Newmarket, making billions of delicious wafer candy rolls each year! We are proud to have such sweet companies in Newmarket! #NewmarketManufacturing #ConfectionaryManufacturing #BusinessAttraction

  • #ICYMI 🎉 Congratulations to The Postmark Hotel – York Region’s first boutique hotel – on their official grand opening event earlier this month! The Postmark Hotel is more than just a new addition to Newmarket; it's a symbol of Newmarket’s growth and a reflection of its rich history. Originally constructed in 1914, the new hotel becomes a stunning example of #adaptivereuse, infusing elements that pay tribute to its former glory as a Post Office. 📬 ✨ The Lobby restaurant at the Postmark Hotel and the scenic Overlea rooftop restaurant offer two unique dining experiences for guests and visitors to indulge in. With an elegant event space for unforgettable weddings, parties, and celebrations, this hotel offers a truly distinctive setting for any occasion. Many businesses agree that the Postmark Hotel is an anchor for the community, drawing visitors from near and far to our award-winning Historic Downtown. 🏆 This notable addition to Newmarket’s Main Street will positively impact the economic vibrancy by boosting tourism, creating new job opportunities, and serving as a dynamic hub for events and conferences. Streetcar Developments were impressed by the vibrancy of the street on their initial visit to the property, which inspired them to purchase and restore what is now The Postmark Hotel. Following their initial investment in Newmarket, the Developers noticed a thriving downtown community which ultimately led them to apply and receive zoning approval to build 68 stacked townhouse units within the downtown area, which would provide additional modern, multi-level housing options. As Newmarket continues to attract visitors, residents and new businesses, The Postmark Hotel will play a foundational role in showcasing the remarkable enhancement of Main Street over recent decades. ✨We’re already excited to see the future impact of this landmark achievement! #CommunityVibrancy #Tourism #HistoricMainStreet #BusinessAttraction
