North American hand-crafted dilution refrigerators and cryogenic equipment
About us
Zero Point Cryogenics (ZPC) is a North American manufacturer specializing in hand crafted dilution refrigerators and cryogenic equipment. ZPC's reliable and compact solutions satisfy space, size, and operation requirements for quantum computing industry partners and academic research. ZPC is led by Dr. John P. Davis, a high-profile professor and researcher in the field of low-temperature physics and recipient of multiple international awards, whose vision is to improve the size and operability of dilution refrigerators. Through innovation, ZPC has improved the ease of use, reliability, and footprint of dilution refrigerators with a mission to enable industry and researchers to advance quantum technology. Zero Point Cryogenics is pleased to introduce two products to the world market, the Model I and the Model L; robust and easy-to-use North American-made dilution refrigerators. With over 25 years of combined experience operating and building dilution refrigerators for low-temperature research, the ZPC team produces fridges that meet the highest of expectations, improving the standards of the systems through innovation. Backed by an extended warranty on every component manufactured by ZPC, customers can focus on developing their quantum technologies, instead of operating their fridges. Zero Point Cryogenics. Colder for Longer.

We are happy to have our CTO John P Davis mentioned in this book by David Giltner!
Teaching scientists how to work in/with industry | Transforming how scientists see their careers | Author | Speaker | Entrepreneur and startup mentor
Most universities should do more to help PhD scientists understand how to be successful in industry. Because most of them will end up in industry after they graduate. 👍 Better industry career preparation helps the graduate find a better job faster. 👍 It also helps the company they join, because they realize day one that success in industry requires a very different mindset than academic research. 👍 It also helps the university look good because the graduate lands a great job and starts performing well quickly. 👏 I’m excited to see more professors taking the initiative to prepare their PhD candidates and postdocs for industry careers. One professor who is doing an awesome job at this is John P Davis, a professor of physics at the University of Alberta. He spoke to me in late 2022 for my latest book 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙑𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮. “𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘺 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳, 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳’𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘗𝘩𝘋 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘴. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘦𝘵, 𝘸𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘴, 𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴. Now, in addition to his job as a professor, John is the CTO and co-founder of Zero Point Cryogenics, a company he spun out of his research group to sell the cryogenic experimental hardware that they use in their own research. Building a company from his research group has been a great way to introduce his students to the pace and thinking habits needed to succeed in industry: “As scientists we always want to refine and make things better, but you can't do that in the business world. You’ve got to get it out there if you want to get traction in the market, and it might be that the refinements you were planning to make aren't the refinements your customers will want.” Embracing industry has done much more than just help his students. It helps his career as a professor also: “The number of successful startups that come out of the university is a new metric for success, so the Vice President of Research is enthralled that we’ve done this.” Read the entire interview with John in my book 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/egbUG5zh #phd #scientists #industrycareers #startups #spinouts

⌛Physics History Friday⌛ Did you know that Neptune was the first planet discovered through mathematics? When Uranus was found in 1781, it initially behaved as expected. However, as astronomers collected more data, they noticed Uranus was being pulled slightly out of its orbit. This anomaly suggested the gravitational influence of another massive planet. That planet, predicted to be Neptune, was later observed by Johann Gottfried Galle in 1846. #PhysicsHistory #VacuumTech #Science

⌛Physics History Friday⌛ Diffusion pumps typically achieve the lowest vacuum pressures among commonly used pumps in vacuum chambers. These pumps operate by boiling off a low-vapor-pressure substance, which is then accelerated to supersonic speeds through a nozzle. The resulting vapor stream collides with residual gas molecules, dragging them toward the outlet. Diffusion pumps are known for their high circulation rates and ability to reach very low pressures, but they require a low backing pressure to function effectively. One significant drawback for many applications is the risk of oil or mercury contamination in the vacuum chamber or the circulating gas. #PhysicsHistory #VacuumTech #Science
