During 2024, Analytic Learning has partnered with World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) on the development of their report on “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence in Professional and Technical Education & Training”. Drawing on a rapid evidence review – and workshops with college leaders from across Africa, the Middle East, Europe, North America, South America, the Caribbean, Oceania, and Asia - the report argues that there are significant opportunities for AI to help to 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 and assist with 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 in the PTET sector. Use cases include: ✅Generating digital content for teachers and learners ✅AI-powered personalised and adaptive learning ✅Providing new insights for decision making ✅Supporting learning inclusion through Assistive Technology ✅Supporting teachers and their professional development ✅Assessing student performance But the use of AI systems also introduces significant risks and uncertainties, including concerns about potential long-run impacts on learning and social interaction. The report recommends that PTET institutions and other sector stakeholders should 'proceed with caution', exploring applications of AI to learner and institutional challenges, but grounding their decision-making in the interests of learners, and considerations of equity and fairness. Back in Calgary after an outstanding experience at the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) World Congress 2024. Jamaica feels like a second home and I’m always so delighted to be able to spend time there. I was so proud to present my Competency Assessment Framework for TVET Educators and on the Short Courses I co-developed with faculty and staff at The Moneague College. Thank you to Pat Bidart, Desmond Campbell, and Kemeisha Smith for presenting with me. Truly an honour to be amongst you all as a peer, colleague, and friend. Being introduced by the incomparable Tricia Rob-Brown was the perfect way to start my first presentation. Wonderful to see and meet so many friends and colleagues new and old. Until next time! It was an honour and a privilege to have been a trip leader, and represented the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) at this year's World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) in Montego Bay, Jamaica. As a team, we enjoyed several captivating sessions regarding the implementation and utilization of AI in education, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's), and an interesting session regarding AI, robotics and a German team that is dedicated to supporting individuals with dementia - a session that hits rather close to home. A big thank you to Flloyd Tan and Chisom Okongwu for being an amazing team and for being so open and willing to make the most of this endeavour. This past week was filled with accelerated growth and wonder, and I’m proud of what the two of you accomplished in such a short amount of time.
Congratulations to the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) and The Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica - CCCJ for hosting an incredible conference in Montego Bay, Jamaica! This past week, Chisom and I had the privilege of immersing ourselves in Jamaican culture while attending the WFCP Youth Congress. We engaged in discussions on AI in education, the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), youth empowerment, and professional development. Alongside over 25 student trailblazers from Canada, the UK, and Jamaica, this experience truly defined what it means to be a global citizen: industrious, curious, and agile. I particularly enjoyed participating in Pat Bidart’s SDG workshop, where our group of four explored the importance of gender equality and developed a call to action. Listening to Sujae Boswell, MSc. and Alvin Day during their professional development sessions was equally inspiring, as they empowered and enlightened us on leadership and life skills. After the Youth Congress, I cherished the opportunity to connect with my peers during an exclusive tour of Walkerswood Caribbean Foods and an adventurous visit to Dunn’s River Falls. A heartfelt thank you to Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Audrey Quitayen, Sarah Ward, Liz Pirnie, PhD, and Ryan Munn for making this memorable experience possible! To my peers, I look forward to the stories you have yet to tell! Cheers to the success ahead of us. #SAIT #heareatsait
