World leaders in high frequency preclinical ultrasound and photoacoustics
About us
FUJIFILM VisualSonics designs and manufactures ultra high frequency ultrasound imaging systems, for both research and clinical use. FUJIFILM VisualSonics specifically focuses on developing ultrasound technology that has been scaled to much higher frequencies than commonly found in many of the conventional ultrasound systems on the market today. As a result, our ultrasound platform provides images at resolutions that far exceed any other system available on the market; as fine as 30 micrometers, clearly differentiating our company from our competitors. Our preclinical customers are mostly academic researchers, often involved in the fields of cardiovascular and cancer research. Neurobiology and developmental biology are other key areas that are among an ever growing number of applications. Early in 2016, we launched a new ultra high frequency ultrasound system for clinical use. It is extremely gratifying to be at the forefront of this new field. Initial applications for clinical use of our ultra high frequency technology includes neonatology and pediatrics, vascular, small parts, MSK and dermatology. Visit www.vevomd.com for more information. Beyond ultrasound, we have also developed a unique photoacoustic technology to expand on the capabilities of our imaging solutions. Photoacoustics is the combination of optical and acoustic imaging, and provides additional and complementary information to what can be seen with ultrasound alone. Examples of this include assessment of blood oxygenation levels, detection of other tissues such as melanin or lipids, or visualization of optical dyes or contrast agents not detectable with ultrasound. Our purpose statement at FUJIFILM VisualSonics is as follows: ‘Through bold innovation, we empower those dedicated to the advancement of human health’. This purpose motivates us to develop the highest quality ultra high frequency ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging products.

Our latest research introduces a novel method to embed QR codes within steel blocks fabricated via Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF), improving traceability and security in additive manufacturing. These QR codes act like "fingerprints," essential for logistics, certification, and anti-counterfeiting efforts. What’s new? We’re using high-frequency phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) to read these embedded QR codes—an industry first! The results show up to 85% accuracy in reading the codes, offering better readability. This breakthrough could be a game-changer for quality control and security in AM processes. A huge shoutout to my incredible colleagues and collaborators who made this research possible! Prof. Farhang Honarvar, Prof. Mihaela Vlasea, Dr. Sagar Patel, Peyman Aalimehr, and supportive team at FUJIFILM VisualSonics, Inc. Check out the full paper to dive deeper into our findings!
