Come join TABE for our first in-person luncheon event on Wednesday, January 15th, 2025 where we will discuss the obstacles to financing of the transition based on case studies prepared by the University of Toronto Global Climate Finance Accelerator under the leadership of Susan McGeachie, its Founding Partner and CEO. The transition to a net-zero economy necessitates substantial capital investment, estimated at approximately US$3.5 trillion per year globally. Climate positive projects are often not economical due to myriad factors. What are these factors? What can be done to reduce the barriers to financing? What financing structures look promising? This luncheon is part of TABE's Path to Net Zero Series where we discuss a variety of issues regarding climate change and through transitioning towards net zero carbon emissions. This event has been organized by Alex Kraas and James Fudurich, members of TABE’s Board of Directors. Members and non-members can find more information and register at the link below.

TABE and Canadian Association for Business Economics are pleased to announce the next session in our webinar series: New Tools of the Economists’ Trade, taking place later today from12:00-1:00PM. This webinar explores how economists can expand their toolkits with strategic foresight techniques. Foresight can help economists identify early warning signals of disruptions to the economy, create forecasts that are robust to potential seismic shifts in the economy, and identify possible gaps in economic analysis. Garima Talwar Kapoor (Director, Policy Research and Insights - Ontario’s Ministry of Children Community, and Social Services) will discuss how her team uses strategic foresight to uncover subtle trends in the macroeconomic landscape that can have significant impacts on the ministry’s programs and people it serves. Robin Shaban, PhD (Fellow, Public Policy Forum and board member of TABE), will discuss their upcoming study with the Forum for the project titled All-In: Pathways to Economic and Financial Inclusion for Canada. The study used strategic foresight to reconceptualize the tough challenges of economic exclusion and poverty and discover new and novel policy solutions to tackle them. TABE Board member Danielle Goldfarb is the host of the series and will host this discussion. Join us to learn about these innovative approaches in economic research and analysis!
