The Government of Canada has removed one of the incentives that has been fueling the abuse of Canada’s labor market impact assessment (LMIA) program. As part of ongoing efforts to prevent and reduce #fraud, Marc Miller, minister immigration, refugees and citizenship, announced just before Christmas that Express Entry candidates will no longer receive additional points for having a job offer. U.S. border officials arrested two #truckdrivers attempting to smuggle hundreds of kilograms of cocaine into Canada. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped a British Columbia-registered tractor hauling an Ontario-registered trailer on Dec. 16 at 2 a.m. going through the Blue Water Bridge entry point at Port Huron. Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, a North American subsidiary of Knorr-Bremse AG, announced the company finalized the sale of its wholly owned subsidiary, commercial vehicle steering systems manufacturer R.H. Sheppard Co. Inc. to an affiliate of Balmoral Funds, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm. FedEx announced that its board of directors has concluded a comprehensive assessment of the role of FedEx Freight as part of its portfolio and has decided to pursue a full separation of FedEx Freight through the capital markets, creating a new publicly traded company.
