    💡Equitable Innovator Spotlight! Meet Rika Sawatsky (she/her), Principal Lawyer at Clausework Professional Corporation. We asked Rika, what's one thing you wish people had the courage to talk more about in relation to inequality? - here's what she had to say: "[We're approaching] the end of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, so workplace domestic violence (as it's called in the legislation) has been top of mind. It's happening in every workplace: at any given time, 6.5% of employees are being abused by their partners. More often than not, the abuse continues at work. And time and again, inquiries show that coworkers knew about the abuse before the final lethal act. But lack of awareness, denial, stigma, and the mistaken notion that “it’s none of my business” create work environments in which people can’t come forward with information about domestic violence when there’s still time to do something about it. This reticence isn’t just a work problem, of course. It’s our society. A connection just shared that not a single politician attended a local vigil to honour those lost to gender-based violence, adding: “Right now, it’s the same women, showing up every time, reminding ourselves that we must keep speaking.” Yes, we must. We need to come at this from multiple directions to deal with the intersectional nature of this epidemic. As an employment lawyer, I’m uniquely positioned to explain to clients why their legal obligations exist, what to do about them, and (with their permission) coordinate a holistic solution with outside experts. If there’s the political will from within the organization to accept that, a culture shift will happen, and we will start hearing those voices that have been silenced all this time." https://lnkd.in/eeYUHyjA
