Nearly 60 years ago, George and Bunty Clements first illuminated lights on a tree for every donation The Fur-Bearers received through December. While there is no longer a tree to light up, the spirit of this tradition lives on. As we approach the holidays, we’re grateful for your continued support. H5N1 is a highly pathogenic virus that primarily affects birds but can also infect other animals and humans. Animals farmed for their fur, including minks and foxes, are known species that can become infected with H5N1. In our latest blog post, we're answering questions about fur farming in the context of H5N1 and why fur farming is considered a pandemic risk. Prince Edward Island’s Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability released its report on trapping after studying the issue over the past year. The report makes several recommendations on trapping and wildlife coexistence. The Fur-Bearers will work with partner organizations and local citizens to ensure key recommendations are implemented by the province.
