Battling cancer, one lymph node at a time.

About us

At Tenomix, our mission is to develop novel technologies that target inefficiencies in the pathology workflow, optimize cancer care and reduce healthcare costs. Our dedicated team of engineers, medical doctors, and clinical scientists is currently working on Tenomix's flagship device, which autonomously searches for lymph nodes in resected cancer tissues and marks their locations for efficient extraction. This bench-top device automates the existing tedious and unreliable manual lymph node finding process and greatly improves the speed and reliability of the cancer staging process. This enables clinicians to make better-informed treatment decisions, resulting in fewer patient complications and fatalities and ensures hospitals continuously meet their quality metrics. Stay tuned for upcoming updates from the company and its team!

"How do we better support our clinicians and patients?" This question stays with me every night as I wrap up my work. A recent Ontario study involving 651,071 cancer patients revealed a stark reality: 35.3% visited the emergency department (ED) within 90 days before diagnosis, and over half of these visits led to hospital admission. For many, the ED is a stressful and reactive setting for navigating a potential cancer diagnosis. These patients often face worse outcomes, including late-stage detection and fragmented follow-up care: https://lnkd.in/guzui5u5. The study's findings highlight a pressing issue—our healthcare model is fundamentally flawed. With so many Canadians lacking access to family doctors, early symptom checks and timely specialist referrals are delayed until symptoms worsen. This highlights the urgent need to rethink healthcare as an ecosystem: one that is distributed, preventive, and focused on early intervention, while also supporting patients diagnosed at later stages with the timely care they need. As we work toward rebuilding this infrastructure, innovators like us have a responsibility to collaborate with clinicians to create solutions that offer real utility. At Tenomix Inc., we’re developing automated technologies to save costs, enhance clinical workflows, and empower laboratory staff to reallocate their limited time to other urgent cases coming into the lab. I’m incredibly thankful to Toronto Star, Canadian Healthcare Technology Magazine, and MaRS Discovery District (thank you, Louise Pichette!) for recognizing our work at Tenomix through these recent press releases (see article links further below). Shoutout to the incredible health-tech companies like Oxford Cancer Analytics, Zucara Therapeutics Inc., RetiSpec, MIMOSA Diagnostics, and LINDA, who are also addressing some of the most pressing challenges in healthcare. Together, we’re striving to bring novel AI-driven solutions to life and the support of early adopters, funders, and government stakeholders become vital to our collective success. To our clinical collaborators across Canada and the U.S.—your invaluable support and feedback continue to shape our technology, enabling us to deliver meaningful benefits and ensure seamless integration into real-world workflows. We’re grateful to work alongside you as we aim to transform healthcare. Let’s keep pushing for innovation that empowers healthcare teams, drives preventive care, and, ultimately, improves patient outcomes. Earlier today, I had a call with one of our clinical collaborators down south, and he mentioned how special the Tenomix team is—the level of cohesiveness and passion we share while building a truly innovative technology. That really resonated with me.
I feel incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by some of the greatest people I know. It’s truly rewarding, beyond words, to be part of a team and a larger community that’s fully committed to pushing the boundaries of medical innovation.
I wanted to share a recent photo of our growing team (top photo) from a few weeks ago, taken to celebrate Tenomix Inc. turning 3 years old with our BioNext friends 🥳🎉 It’s been a wild ride, no doubt. But the milestones we’ve hit in just three years make it feel like we’re a 10-year-old company (maybe that’s why I’m noticing more grey hairs).
Just THIS year, we’ve accomplished some pretty amazing things that leave me speechless at times: - Closed our first (oversubscribed) $2M+ financing round, during one of the toughest economic conditions. - Filed national patent applications for our core technology in 10 key regions, based on our earlier PCT. - Secured more than $1.59M in grant funding. - Continued working with some of the top hospitals in North America and strengthening our collaborations. - Attended over six conferences and pitch events in the first two quarters, meeting with more than 60 new investors and securing new leads for manufacturing and clinical collaboration. - Recently partnered with a solid contract manufacturer to build the next version of our device—stay tuned! - Maintained commitments with over six incubators and completed four new accelerators, including NEXT AI (highly recommend this program for the AI-focused startups in my network). - Conducted multiple usability tests and made rapid iterations to our prototype. - Grew the team by more than 800% in terms of full-time employees. - Featured in prominent publications like the Toronto Star, The Logic and among others. - Offered opportunities to over 49 interns in the last three years, who have made significant contributions to different parts of the business. - Completed more than 73 experiments over 3 years, which taught us so much about our technology and revealed exciting new clinical applications for it. 😉
I know I sound like a broken record, but we couldn’t have done any of this without our incredible community partners. Whether it’s providing prototyping support, office space, funding, mentorship, or invaluable teachings, you’ve been the rock-solid foundation that allows us to focus on what we do best—innovating and building technologies that will leave a lasting impact on pathology staff, hospitals, and patients worldwide.
And a special shoutout to our investors and mentors—you guys are the best! You believed in our vision from the start, and it’s been such an exciting journey already. I can’t wait to keep building this company with our community and take it to the moon 🚀🌕
