  • In Alberta, over the past three years, there has been a 69% increase in the number of pipeline incidents related to contact damage. Source: Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) These incidents could have been mitigated by careful adherence to ground disturbance protocols. On every SureLine operation, we ensure our team has the latest ground disturbance certifications. We also take all precautions necessary to ascertain whether a subterranean pipeline exists before we commence work. This includes identifying the location of underground utilities and understanding the potential risks involved. • It’s time for the fourth and final part of our behind-the-scenes look at a SureLine operation: execution. In this case, after rigorous planning, we will use two cranes working in tandem to transfer the 105-tonne slug catcher from the bed of a heavy-duty truck to its place of installation. This stage relies on constant communication and oversight. We depend on a mix of our experienced foremen and monitoring technology to achieve this. In this operation, wind conditions grew stronger throughout. Thankfully, we reached the point of touchdown before we would have to perform a mandatory safety shutdown. With the slug catcher safely installed, it's then just a matter of cleaning up the jobsite to our high standards. And then it's on to the next challenge! #Safety #CraneLift #SlugCatcher #Installation

  • Part three of our behind-the-scenes look at installing a 105-tonne slug catcher is working with the people involved to ensure everyone is aligned and understands the plan; One Team Approach. This is our opportunity to complete various hazard and risk assessments through safe work permits, reviewing JSAs, and facilitating a 'Safety Meeting - All Crew' to discuss the specific hazards and mitigation strategies. This is a chance to discuss anything and everything that will or might occur. We encourage our team to speak up with concerns and questions to ensure everyone knows exactly what's happening. It's our workers' OBLIGATION and RIGHT to refuse work if they are unfamiliar with the scope or how to control identified hazards. Afterall, safety depends on awareness and knowledge. Now with everything in place, it's time to move onto the lift itself... Watch for the fourth and final part on Monday! #Safety #Onsite #CraneLift #SlugCatcher #OilAndGas

  • In the second part of our behind-the-scenes look at a SureLine Projects operation, with the initial planning and blueprints complete, it's time to prepare the jobsite.  At this stage, we install all necessary equipment and machinery, which is HEAVY. In this case, we are primarily depending on a pair of cranes working in tandem to lift the 105-tonne slug catcher from the truck bed and safely position it on the ground. We first need to prepare the earth to be ready to support the large amounts of weight involved. Then we conduct ruthless inspections of all machinery to ensure it has made it to the jobsite safely and is fit for purpose. Check back in tomorrow for part three! #Safety #CraneLift #SlugCatcher #Jobsite

  • Do you want to know how much preparation and planning goes into installing a 105-tonne slug catcher? In a new series of posts, we're going to take you behind the scenes and show you how our dedicated project management team prepared to install a 105-tonne slug catcher at a job site. This is a fairly standard procedure, which we do pretty regularly, however, the amount of depth that goes into it may surprise you. The first step in the installation is the drawing board – we approach every project with a fresh outlook: carefully draft plans, double-check measurements and triple-check calculations along every stage of the process, evaluating the constructability of the project, with quality and safety at the forefront of our objectives. The collaboration with safety, quality and constructability are built into the project from day one. Follow along to see the next part of this series!
