  • When considering the combined net effects of both international and inter-provincial migration, Alberta added 189,145 new residents. If we account for the young population having babies at 49,698 and deaths at 34,634 there is a total of 204,209 new residents in Alberta. That is like almost the equivalent of adding two new cities of Red Deer to the province.

  • Mexico’s economy has been steadily growing in recent years, making it an increasingly appealing destination for foreign investment. With a stable political climate and ongoing improvements in infrastructure and services for tourists and investors, Mexico presents a promising environment for property ownership. Investing in a vacation home in Mexico is not only a smart financial move but also a stable and secure one. Since the pandemic highlighted global supply chain vulnerabilities, significant investment has flowed into Mexico for manufacturing and nearshoring. This trend has strengthened Mexico’s economy and currency, particularly since mid-2022. Is Mexico’s political climate perfect? No—but where is it? The perception of safety often shaped by headlines doesn’t fully reflect the reality on the ground, contributing to why property prices remain more affordable. While challenges exist, there is clear and deliberate progress being made to bolster Mexico’s economic and political systems.

  • Beyond its perceived traditional energy sector, Edmonton has diversified into technology, healthcare, and education. This economic diversification reduces investment risk associated with reliance on a single industry. As the Capital city of Alberta, its economic cycles are far more stable and less boom and bust than people outside of Edmonton may think. Stability is a good thing for investment in a community as it provides reliability.

  • Compared to other popular vacation home destinations like Hawaii, the Caribbean, or Europe, Mexico stands out for its more affordable real estate options. As a Canadian who owns property in Hawaii and travels there frequently, I’ve seen firsthand how costs for accommodations, car rentals, food, and dining have skyrocketed in Hawaii since the pandemic—making Mexico a much more budget-friendly option. For Canadians, the exchange rate allows your money to stretch further in Mexico than in many other vacation hotspots.

  • What is the "Alberta Advantage"? Low Taxation: Alberta boasts no provincial sales tax, which enhances consumer purchasing power and stimulates economic activity. Economic Diversification: Beyond its oil and gas heritage, Alberta is investing heavily in technology, agriculture, and renewable energy sectors, fostering a resilient economy which I will dig into further below. Gross Domestic Product (Edmonton): According the Conference Board of Canada and the City of Edmonton research Edmonton’s real GDP will rise by 1.2% in 2024, after expanding 2.5% in 2023. The expectation of GDP growth is between 2.6% – 2.7% growth in 2025, then growth averaging 2.8% from 2026–28.

  • One of the greatest benefits of investing in a vacation home in Mexico is its convenient proximity. For Canadian investors, Mexico is just a short flight away, making it easy to visit frequently without dealing with long travel times or significant time zone changes. Many major Mexican destinations even offer direct flights. I also discovered that staying connected to my business back in Canada was seamless while in Mexico, thanks to reliable internet connectivity and minimal time differences with my clients.
