  • As reported in The Lancet: “Our trial provides the first evidence of a demonstrative spatial repellent protective efficacy in reducing risk of malaria infection in an African setting characterised by high malaria transmission, pyrethroid resistant malaria vectors, and high coverage of insecticide treated nets. Results support spatial repellent products as a beneficial component of malaria prevention.” The SC Johnson Mosquito Shield™ spatial repellent is an easy-to-use product that can help protect a semi-enclosed or enclosed space from mosquitoes without requiring electricity or a flame to work. This repellent is ideal for semi-permanent homes, clinics requiring frequent cleaning, temporary IDP camps and rapid response settings. It has been through trials in Indonesia, Peru, and now Kenya with promising results.

Each year millions of people become infected with malaria. The disease can often be fatal, despite traditional safeguards such as insecticide-treated mosquito nets. As reported in The Lancet, a randomized controlled trial showed that a spatial repellent reduced malaria transmission by one-third in an area of western Kenya. The trial was part of the Advancing Evidence for the Global Implementation of Spatial Repellents (AEGIS) project, funded by global health agency Unitaid and led by Nicole Achee at the University of Notre Dame. “We are elated,” said Achee, who also holds a joint associate professor appointment in the Eck Institute for Global Health at the University of Notre Dame. “Results from the Kenya trial mark a seminal event in decades-long research on spatial repellents in support of public health.” To learn more about the impact of this research and the collaboration that made it possible, read the press release: https://lnkd.in/erD66-ME Eric Ochomo University of Notre Dame - College of Science Photo: SC Johnson

Last Saturday, SCJ people rang bells for The Salvation Army Red Kettles at nearly a dozen locations around our company headquarters in Racine, WI.   This year, thanks to the generosity of our community, a 2x match from our Chairman and CEO H Fisk Johnson, and a 2x match from SC Johnson, over $267,000 was raised in just one day!    The donation helps fund programs like the Salvation Army Food Pantry, Healthy Kids Diner, Christmas Toy Shop and Coats for Kids among many others throughout the year. Thank you to everyone that helped raise this historic amount for the Racine Salvation Army!

Join us this Saturday, December 14th for Fisk Johnson Match Day with our local Racine County Salvation Army. This year, for every $1 donated at the kettles, an additional $4 will be contributed through a 2x match from our Chairman and CEO, H Fisk Johnson and an additional 2x match from SC Johnson. We'll be at multiple Red Kettle locations across the Racine area—right in our own backyard. Let’s come together to make this the biggest donation match day in Wisconsin history. We hope to see you there!

  • The threat of #malaria continues to increase, and today the World Health Organization issued a clarion call for sharper focus on, and more progress toward, this entirely preventable disease. In 2023, there were: * 263M malaria cases * nearly 600K malaria deaths While nearly 50% of the world’s population is at risk of malaria, the World Health Organization's African Region continues to shoulder the largest burden, accounting for 94% of all global malaria cases and 95% of all malaria deaths. By manufacturing our spatial repellents where the need is greatest and working with partners such as United to Beat Malaria, Society for Family Health Rwanda, The MENTOR Initiative and others, we can deliver help, and hope, to the millions impacted by malaria.

  • Thanks to the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) for highlighting comments and public policy goals from our Chairman and CEO, H Fisk Johnson. As Fisk often says, it will take collective action - from businesses like SC Johnson, individuals, and our governments - to help solve the plastic waste crisis. If you're in the US, you can join our movement advocating for strong plastic regulations by writing your legislators at: https://lnkd.in/gKGadjbZ

Building a sustainable future with plastics requires collaboration and innovation. SC Johnson, an APR member, shares insights into the challenges of scaling recycling solutions and increasing the use of recycled plastic. The path forward? Creating a regulatory framework that fosters a level playing field and drives progress. Fisk Johnson highlights how manufacturers, policymakers, and other stakeholders can work together to prioritize recycling. Learn more: https://ow.ly/RFaN50Uo3tN

  • 29 years ago, Paul J. Crutzen, Mario J. Molina & F. Sherwood Rowland were awarded The Nobel Prize in Chemistry, "for their work in atmospheric chemistry, particularly concerning the formation and decomposition of ozone." It was their work, released in 1974, that 4th-generation SC Johnson leader, Sam Johnson, relied upon to make the industry-first decision to ban chlorofluorocarbons, known as CFCs - the chemicals that impact the ozone layer - from our aerosol products worldwide in 1975. Congratulations to this year's Nobel Prize laureates who receive their prize today! #NobelDay Learn more about Sam's decision here: https://lnkd.in/ehtXchi3

  • For over 65 years, SC Johnson has been dedicated to protecting families from insect-borne diseases through innovative products and educational programs. Most recently, in collaboration with the Fiocruz Museum of Life, SC Johnson launched the exhibition “Aedes and Anopheles: What Mosquitoes Are These?” Starting today, November 27, visitors can explore the fascinating world of mosquitoes that transmit dengue and malaria through interactive displays. Building on this commitment, SC Johnson is also proud to announce the launch of its “Adeus Mosquito” campaign in Brazil. Expanding on the successful initiative in Argentina, this campaign—developed in partnership with the Fundação Amazônia Sustentável (FAS) —aims to educate and protect communities from mosquito-borne diseases, reaching over 30,000 families in Manaus. This project will, for the first time, include materials on malaria and its vector, Anopheles, recognizing malaria as an endemic disease in Amazonas. SC Johnson remains committed in its mission to create a healthier world by providing individuals with the tools and knowledge they need to protect themselves and their families.
