“Once we worked on our own artwork, we shared them amongst the group. We are delighted that the one-of-a-kind 2024 10 kg 99.99% Pure Gold Coin – The Dance Screen (The Scream Too), an exquisite numismatic tribute to the art of acclaimed Haida master carver Chief 7IDANsuu (James Hart), sold for $1,561,250.00 CAD (including Buyer’s Premium), after a live auction conducted by Heffel Fine Art Auction House. This rare, pure gold masterpiece was sold to an anonymous bidder on November 20, 2024, and beat the previous record for a coin offered at auction in Canada. Learn more: bit.ly/3OmpPc8

Last week, our defence team hosted leaders in commemoration, students and members of the Royal Canadian Armed Forces at a Future of Commemoration Conference. There, together with the Royal Canadian Mint and Members of Parliament Anita Vandenbeld & Marie-France Lalonde, we were proud to unveil a special collectors' coin made to recognize 80 years since the ending of the Second World War. Thoughtfully included in the design by Neil Hamelin is a scene depicting Canadian solidiers receiving a heroes welcome by Dutch people after five hard years of occupation. Commemorative efforts like these bring the past into the present, where we can continue to tell the stories of those who ensured our freedom. The Royal Canadian Mint has released a collectible dinosaur coin featuring Regaliceratops peterhewsi — a horned dinosaur on display in our Museum! Regaliceratops (“royal horned face”) refers to the crown-like projections around its head, and peterhewsi honours the geologist who found this dinosaur in 2005. The coin’s illustration is by Canadian palaeoartist Julius Csotonyi. Our Dr. François Therrien provided scientific consultation. This isn't your average toonie. This one-of-a-kind coin was designed by four Inuit artists—Tegan Voisey, Thomassie Mangiok, Charlotte Karetak, and Mary Okheena—each representing their own region of Inuit Nunangat.

“This coin is a celebration of Inuit Nunangat and an invitation to all people living across Canada to learn more about the traditions and culture of Inuit across this vast homeland,” Michelle Richardson, Chief Impact Officer, said during the ceremony at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.
