Remembering our Founder Megan's first trip to the UK last year and feeling thankful for how well this has set us up for doing business in England.
A throwback post to last year when ROCarbon Labs was one of five cleantech startups chosen from across Canada to travel to the UK with Canada’s Minister of International Trade & Economic Development, the Honourable Mary Ng. This happened to be the very first all women’s trade mission between Canada and the UK. This was important because it meant that we could share candid stories and experiences with Mary along with challenges that we had all been facing that are often unique to women in business. Aside from meeting with Mary and getting to spend time networking with her at incredible places like Lancaster House and Canada House, we also got to meet with many local business leaders, investors, and tour places that could assist our business which included the University of Cambridge. A lot of these amazing opportunities we were lucky to have set up by Canada’s cleantech trade commissioner for England, Megan Wood. I highly recommend working with Megan for any Canadian cleantech companies hoping to make a soft landing in the UK and to get a foot in the door to the European market. I would also recommend learning about the Free Trade Agreements being established between our countries and how beneficial this can be to get a leg up on the competition. Ever since this trip last year, we have been searching for ways to leverage the great business connections and opportunities that came from it and always wondered what that would look like. Only a year later, we can see our presence in the UK starting to take shape and it seems fitting that it happens to be through the University of Cambridge. I am back in England right now for our second in person sessions with the University's Trust in Sustainability program that ROCarbon has been accepted into. We are in London this month for these sessions at the British Library and I am having many successful meetings with different partners, investors, and potential customers. I can’t wait to share more soon! #Cleantech #Startup #Climatech #CarbonInsets #CarbonOffsets #CarbonCredits #Canada #England #UK #London #Cambridge #HighCommissionofCanada #LancasterHouse #CanadaHouse #TrustinSustainability #TheBritishLibrary
