Canada is on a transformative journey to reach net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050. Wind and solar energy, supported by energy storage, will power much of this journey. That’s because wind and solar are the lowest-cost sources of new decarbonized electricity. We will need to increase our wind and solar capacity 10x by 2050, so we need to act now, and we need to act together.

Kudos to CanREA member Natural Forces on securing $45.8 million in funding from the Canada Infrastructure Bank/ Banque de l'infrastructure du Canada for their Benjamins Mill Wind Project! Once completed, this Nova Scotia project, located in Mi’kmaki—the ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq—will generate approximately 150 MW, enough to power up to 58,000 homes. Another exciting news from Natural Forces! We are thrilled to announce the funding of $45.8 million for the Benjamins Mill Wind Project by Canada Infrastructure Bank/ Banque de l'infrastructure du Canada. This funding is a major milestone for us and a step towards a more sustainable future. The Benjamins Mill Wind Project is a partnership project between Wskijinu’k Mtmo’taqnuow Agency Ltd and Natural Forces. The project is in the construction phase, and we couldn't be more grateful for the support from CIB. Special thanks to MP Kody Blois, Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants and Chair of the House of Commons Agriculture and Agri-Food Committee, and everyone who attended the event at Glooscap Community Center. Let's continue working together to create a sustainable future for all. 🌿💨🌎 For more details about the funding, please visit https://lnkd.in/gFQ3qpDN For more details about the project, please visit naturalforces.ca.

Why are so many Canadians going solar? In Canada, solar (PV) systems installed on residential, commercial and industrial rooftops are currently providing 1.2 GW of solar power directly to those homes and businesses. Canadians added 86 MW of new on-site solar in 2023 alone, according to CanREA’s annual data report. In addition to the environmental benefits, generating your own energy from the sun through solar photovoltaics (PV) increases your energy independence, saves you money on your electricity bills and, when paired with energy storage, can help ensure you are prepared in the event of a power outage or natural disaster. Learn how to plan your solar installation with CanREA’s Go Solar Guide 2024, available for free here: https://ow.ly/lJ4e50SIAqr. SPONSORED POST: Have you considered a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) as part of your emission reduction strategy? Canadian corporations are increasingly adopting renewable VPPAs to secure long-term, fixed prices for renewable energy because they help hedge against market price fluctuations, support sustainability goals, and offer predictable energy costs. However, their effectiveness often depends on artificial electricity markets. Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG)'s experienced Energy, Resources and Renewables lawyers have extensive experience advising buyers and proponents of renewable VPPAs across Canada and can help you navigate the key considerations when exploring renewable VPPAs. https://lnkd.in/djbDdEEX
