Family doctors provide exceptional patient care despite rising complexity of care and heavy administrative burden, as underscored in this report. Every effort must be made by governments to support family doctors who are the foundation of Canadian health care.
NEW: We’ve updated our data on health care professionals in Canada. Get the latest 2023 data on the supply and distribution of the health workforce in your province or territory. Did you know? • Most pharmacists and physiotherapists worked primarily in community settings, accounting for nearly three-quarters of their workforces — the highest proportions among the professionals studied. • The number of family physicians working in direct care settings increased by 20% from 2014 (29,341) to 2022 (35,244). • Almost 1 in 3 nurse practitioners primarily worked in community settings, a 3-percentage-point increase over the past 10 years.

A new report from Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) shows that number of family physicians in Canada declined for the first time since the mid 90s due to rapid population growth and an increase in elderly and patients with complex illnesses. Family physicians need urgent support to ensure we can recruit new family doctors and retain the physicians that are currently practicing. https://lnkd.in/ez52-tKC
