🎶🎶 “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…” 🎶🎶 We’re wrapping up a festive week celebrating the generosity of our Moncton team! Over the past few weeks, they participated in a Reverse Advent Calendar, getting different contributions daily in support of the Peter McKee Community Food Centre. The organization provides individuals and families in the community with better access to healthy, well-balanced food options. This morning, Steve Perry, Associate, Shonda Schwetz, Electrical Production Manager, and Andrew Jardine, Building Automation Systems Technologist, delivered the goods, spreading holiday cheer to those in need. Thank you for your dedication to making the Holiday Season brighter! #Volunteering #TeamBuilding #HolidaySeason

As 2024 nears its end, we still have so much to celebrate! Last week, we received the Northern Lighting Award in the Specialty category for our work at the Ben Calf Robe School in Edmonton. At the heart of the school’s design is a centralized tipi that rises through the center of the building—an architectural feature that our lighting design sought to celebrate. The interior lighting balances a modern aesthetic with elements that honour First Nations culture. The rings on the ceiling tie the background of the Catholic faith with Indigenous design and living, as circles are a key symbol in First Nations spirituality, family, structure, gatherings of people, meetings, songs and dances. The exterior lighting showcases the tipi’s beauty with vibrant, color changing RGBW spotlights strategically placed around the roof. Manan Kapoor, one of our principals in Edmonton, reflects: “Lighting is not intended to stand out on its own; rather, it is to highlight and integrate with good architecture. Finding that balance was the challenge with this project, but also what made it exciting.” __________ Architect: BR2 Architecture General Contractor: Delnor Construction Electrical Contractor: AltaPro Electric Ltd Images courtesy of Edmonton Catholic Schools

It’s the season of giving! Last night, some of our Edmonton team members spent the evening volunteering at Edmonton's Food Bank, sorting donations to help support families facing food insecurity. Jeff Smith, one of our Edmonton partners, shared his thoughts on the experience: "We had a great and rewarding night. It was eye-opening to see how low their stock was and to realize how much the need for their services continues to grow. Thank you, team, for joining! We hope our donation from Client Night will help this amazing organization support even more families." Did you know? 🍽️ Last month, the Edmonton Food Bank served a record 48,000 people 🍽️ The Food Bank in Edmonton was the first of its kind established in Canada 🍽️They rely entirely on the generosity of corporate and private donations 🍽️Their ultimate mission is to close their doors—because that would mean no family is going hungry There are many ways to donate, so please check their page and website to make a difference in your community! #Volunteer #Foodbank #TeamBuilding

Ski season is in full swing, and we’re excited to spotlight our recent work on the new Angel Chairlift at Sunshine Village Ski & Snowboard Resort in Banff National Park! Set in the heart of the Rockies, this project involved replacing the existing quad chairlift with a six-person lift, and our team provided electrical engineering consulting services. Mauro Plenzik, Principal in our Calgary office, reflects: "What makes this project unique is its location. The undertaking of removing the existing quad chairlift and installing a new six-person chairlift was very interesting. We provided electrical engineering support for normal and emergency power for the new lift, which features luxury items such as heated bucket seats, footrests and a weather protection bubble." The new lift was ready for Sunshine Village skiers by the opening day of the 2024–25 season, enhancing their mountain adventures in one of Canada’s most iconic settings. #Consulting #Engineering #Electrical

Today, we remember and honour the 14 young women who lost their lives at the Polytechnique Montréal massacre on December 6, 1989, and stand in solidarity with all those affected by gender-based violence. This national tragedy reminds us of the importance of fostering a world free from discrimination, where everyone can live and thrive without fear. Our team in Moncton marked the date by wearing white ribbons, a symbol of remembrance and commitment to change.

We love a good #TBT, especially when it highlights our team's dedication to education and expertise! Back in September, Jordi Johnson, P. Eng, MBA, from our Winnipeg office, presented at the CEATI Soil Testing Workshop Part 1: Soil Electrical Resistivity. Alongside Jeff Nunn, Eng. L., C.E.T., Jordi delivered a technical presentation on “Practical Methods for Planning and Analysis of Multiple Sets of Soil Resistivity Data in Varying Soil Conditions.” Reflecting on the experience, Jordi shared: "My involvement in CEATI started at the 2023 T&D (transmission and distribution) conference in November 2023 in Fort Worth. From there, I was connected with their lightning and grounding group, which is how we got signed up to present at the workshop. The workshop was attended by utility staff from various countries, largely Canada and the United States. Kresta from Winnipeg attended their T&D conference this year. Overall, the presentation was well received, with a lot of questions from the audience." #Education #Consulting #Engineer

Construction on the Town Centre Place in Scarborough is progressing well! MCW is proud to contribute our expertise in electrical, mechanical, and sustainability engineering to Atria Development Corporation's project. The four-tower development features a geothermal system by Geosource Energy Inc., with 190 boreholes drilled 850 feet deep. Once completed, it will provide sustainable heating and cooling for 1,591 residential units and multiple retail spaces, projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and energy consumption by 40%. Mark McVan, one of our principals in Toronto, points out: “A geo-exchange system offers a sustainable, low-carbon solution for heating and cooling, significantly contributing to the development's achievement of ambitious energy efficiency targets.” #Sustainability #GeoExchange #Consulting #Engineering
