Humans are living longer, but many of us are spending our later years in poor health (Source: World Health Organization). We’re tackling this issue head-on with the goal of helping people live longer, healthier, better lives. We're proud to announce new collaborations with leading health innovators Guardant Health and AMILI for our customers in Singapore. Through our collaboration with Guardant Health, Manulife Singapore customers will have greater access to comprehensive genomic profiling across all advanced solid tumour cancers. Our collaboration with AMILI introduces greater access to comprehensive gut microbiome screening, which will empower customers to make informed decisions about nutrition, immunity and overall health. More than 200 colleagues from around the world joined forces to run the Angkor Wat International Half Marathon in Cambodia. This is our 11th year as the main sponsor of the event, which took place in Siem Reap earlier this month. With the support of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, our colleagues also led a record-breaking fundraising campaign which raised CAD $156,000 in support of the Angkor Hospital for Children. #ManulifeImpact

Our colleagues across the globe have taken part in a number of volunteer activities this Season of Giving to give back to the communities they call home. Our teams have made blankets for patients at CAMH, assembled kits for new parents at Boston Medical Center, assembled STEM kits for Anishnabeg Outreach, packed stockings in support of Phoenix Youth, and wrapped gifts for kids from underserved communities in Hong Kong. We can all make a difference when we volunteer our time and share our humanity this holiday season. #ManulifeImpact #WinningTeam

We are continuing to spotlight winners of the Prospering in Longevity Challenge, through UpLink, the World Economic Forum’s open innovation platform, and the Forum’s Centre for Financial and Monetary Systems. Among our ten winning start-ups is juli, a company that uses artificial intelligence to revolutionize the way people manage chronic conditions. The creators of the digital platform attended our Longer. Healthier. Better. symposium in Boston to show how juli uses AI to help patients and caregivers gain control over their conditions by giving them insight into patterns that impact their health. Is the aging process something we can change? We caught up with Andrew Steele at our Longer. Healthier. Better. symposium in Boston to take a closer look at some of the new research around getting older and learn how the Galápagos giant tortoise could offer some clues.

Today, I shared my decision to retire at the end of May next year and welcomed my successor, Pragashini Fox. I have truly cherished my time working with and getting to know all my colleagues at Manulife. Everyone on our team cares deeply about the work we do, brings a can-do mindset, and is always ready to collaborate to make an impact. Those incredible strengths have enabled our team to help create a culture at Manulife that has played an essential role in the company’s transformation and success. I am tremendously proud of this accomplishment and what it has meant, not just for our shareholders and other external stakeholders but most especially for our global teammates. Together, we have helped our colleagues navigate through a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic while at the same time, building a completely new foundation and HRC organization. Over the past six+ years, we’ve created and launched a range of programs in response to colleague feedback that has brought our values to life, made our workplace more inclusive, helped colleagues grow their skills and careers, and elevated their connection to our company’s purpose. Every aspect of the work we do has been transformed as well — from the tools and processes we use, to the compensation and benefits programs we offer, to the way we connect, celebrate, and powerfully communicate, attract and onboard talent, support managers, remain compliant, and so much more. I will be forever grateful for our team’s commitment to make “better” a reality. There are so many exciting things ahead as we continue to raise the bar for ourselves and our industry, which is why I am very pleased to welcome Pragashini to lead our team when I retire next year. Pragashini brings infectious optimism and passion for the work we do, as well as a keen appreciation of how to help our global workforce be more change-ready and resilient. I have felt so privileged to have the chance to make a positive difference in other’s lives during my time at Manulife. The responsibility and the true joy of being able to make decisions that can help colleagues unlock their dreams, provide a better life for themselves and their loved ones, as well as better support to our customers, has been tremendously fulfilling. I have every confidence that under Pragashini’s leadership, our amazing team will continue to propel Manulife’s success. And I look forward to watching my colleagues grow their careers and make their mark. Thank you to everyone across Manulife for everything!

Today, we recognize International Day of Persons with Disabilities as we continue to work to foster an environment where everyone feels accepted, valued, and included. We are proud to be part of the global business collective, Valuable 500, to advance disability inclusion and have recently been named an ‘Iconic Partner.’ On this day, we are also spotlighting our Ability Employee Resource Group (ERG), which is a community where colleagues come together to share their humanity by creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive space for people of all abilities. Louise is a member of our Ability ERG and shares the important work they do to help make our workplace a safe and inclusive place for everyone.
