This year, we started construction on the Production Test Module for the first River-class Destroyer, delivered the future HMCS Frédérick Rolette, launched the final AOPS for the Royal Canadian Navy, cut steel on the final AOPS for the Canadian Coast Guard, and continued steady refit work on HMCS Halifax, to name a few of our many progress milestones in 2024. A new report from the Conference Board of Canada examines the workforce and economic impacts of the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) at Halifax Shipyard. Here are some highlights: - The NSS is delivering $9.5 billion in labour income to Canadians, supporting an average of 9,400 full time jobs annually across Canada, with 4,300 of these jobs located in Nova Scotia. - The NSS will contribute $14.2 billion to Canada’s GDP between 2013 and 2026. - Since 2015, the Halifax Shipyard has invested $49 million in skills training, leadership development, and safety awareness of its local workforce.
