Bridges, roads, highways, and tunnels do a great job of connecting communities on the coast... until they're out of service in an emergency. Then it's only the waterways that remain open and reliable. Ferries = resilience. Passenger-only ferry networks are practical and affordable during the best of times, and a critical lifeline during the worst of times. Now's our chance to build resilience for coastal communities by strengthening ferry transportation. News story: https://lnkd.in/gNeCTCRD

Thanks UBC Master of Engineering Leadership (MEL) for the invite! Terrific engagement from the students -- we're delighted to see that the next generation of engineering leaders are so passionate about implementing new, greener technologies. Callum Campbell, P.Eng, MBA Capt. Darren Pereira
We had an exciting presentation from Callum Campbell and Darren Pereira of Greenline Marine, where they shared their vision for all-electric, passenger-only #ferries in coastal BC! Their project aims to revolutionize ferry #transportation by creating #sustainable, zero-emissions ferries connecting Gibsons and Bowen Island to Vancouver. A big thank you to Callum and Darren for introducing NAME students to this groundbreaking #initiative that’s paving the way for a greener, more eco-friendly future in #coastal transportation! #UBCMEL #APSC #UBC #vancouver #cleanenergy #greenfuture #cleanenergyfuture #greenergy #sustainability #coastalbc #electricferries #sustainabletransport #innovationintransport

For almost 40 years, BMT has led the way in ferry design, constantly pushing boundaries and embracing new technologies to meet the industry's evolving needs. In our latest blog, Navigating the Future: BMT’s Journey in Electric Ferry Design, Alex Blake Senior Naval Architect at BMT, explores the milestones shaping a cleaner maritime future—from our hybrid vessels to the recent 32-meter all-electric ferry, created in partnership with Greenline Marine Inc. Why electric ferries? Beyond emission reductions, electric vessels offer significant benefits: quieter operations for passenger comfort, simplified mechanical systems for design flexibility, and long-term futureproofing as battery technology advances. Designing electric ferries presents unique challenges, from route analysis to shore-side infrastructure. Battery-electric ferries need a meticulous understanding of routes, electrical loads, and environmental factors. By collaborating early with stakeholders, we help operators achieve vessel-wide optimisation, from propulsion to efficient recharging, unlocking impactful energy savings. At BMT, we see electrification as a vital step in a sustainable maritime future. Through an integrated design approach and deep expertise in ferry operations, we're equipping operators to make the transition to Net Zero seamlessly. Explore our journey into electric ferry design and learn how BMT is helping operators navigate the transition to Net Zero with tailored solutions. Read more about our journey https://bit.ly/48HYTgn, and don’t miss the chance to meet Alex Blake at the International WorkBoat Show next week in New Orleans to discuss how we can support your move toward sustainable, efficient ferry operations. #BMT #ElectricFerries #VesselDesign #SustainableDesign #NetZero #IWBS24

Under the leadership of President and CEO Tamara Vrooman, Vancouver International Airport - YVR was named best airport in North America, according to rankings from the 2024 Skytrax World Airport Awards. So it was a thrill for our team to hear from Vrooman earlier this week at a Greater Vancouver Board of Trade event, which drew over 600 attendees. Vrooman described some of YVR's latest advancements, from innovative use of YVR's digital twin to the Pacific Autism Family Network’s recently opened Paper Planes Cafe. But what really hit home was her emphasis on intermodal transportation connections, especially via waterways. Vrooman sees YVR as an important geographic hub and pointed out “Vancouver’s airport is surrounded by water”, emphasizing the need for water-based connections for new lines of access. The world's leading transportation hubs like Hong Kong, Singapore, and Copenhagen understand that waterways aren’t constraints, they’re opportunities. When used appropriately, they increase connectivity and vibrancy in communities. And it couldn't be clearer that YVR is uniquely positioned to embody this vision. What an inspiring talk -- thanks to colleague Andrew Baigent at Urban Systems Ltd. for the event invite!
Seatbelt sign is on at the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade as Tamara Vrooman, President & CEO of the Vancouver Airport Authority, gives her annual address showcasing what’s in store for North America’s best airport. #YVR #GVBOT

Greenline Marine Inc. is proud to sponsor the 2024 Colibri Ferries Conference. Great to be in the room with so many like-minded people who are envisioning the future of ferry transportation.
Attending the Colibri Ferry Conference reminded me why I’m so passionate about transforming coastal transportation. It’s inspiring to see how many similar plans for passenger-only ferry service are already happening in the U.S. A great ferry service is driven by the communities it serves, transcending politics and genuinely improving peoples’ lives. At the 2024 Annual Ferry Conference, we explored the intersection of technology, operations, funding, and advocacy, including: - The development of grant funding programs - Insights about communicating the benefits of ferries to diverse user groups, from an experienced ferry advocate - Perspectives on the transition to future fuels - A preview of exciting new hydrofoil technology While the U.S. ferry industry has its challenges, it serves as a valuable model for us in BC striving for change. Our coastal communities can aim higher, and Greenline is excited to be leading the charge.
