As we stand on the cusp of 2025, it's time to celebrate and to reflect on the incredible journey the Canadian hardtech community and Garage&co have taken over the past year. It has been nothing short of extraordinary, and we’re filled with gratitude and excitement for what’s to come!  It was an amazing year and we want to share some of our personnel highlight: 🦾 Turning a long-time dream into reality with HardtechFest 2024, bringing together the Hardtech community, with more than 1000 people across Canada. 🤝 Hosting our Hardtech Innovators Meetups, fostering ideas, collaborations, and inspiration, bringing together a community of almost 200 people. 🌎 Representing hardtech at local and international stages: Startup Open House, Startupfest, CES, Hannover Messe, Collision, and Hardtech Summit. 🗽 An amazing visit to the HAX labs in New York, witnessing cutting-edge innovation firsthand. 🚀 And our biggest joy? Supporting and collaborating with over 40 brilliant and passionate startups that are set to change the world in meaningful ways. In addition, this year has also been about growing our team, welcoming amazing talent like Philippe Gaumond, Vincent Mayka, Arthur Sureau-Samit, Karim Chifa, and Eloi Ponson to the Garage&co family and building meaningful relationships within the hardtech ecosystem, including Centre national intégré du manufacturier intelligent, Quantino, District 3 Innovation, V1 Studio and other ecosystem partners A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported us through the ups and downs. 🙋♂️ What exactly is hardtech? If you work in the field, you've likely heard this question: “How would you describe a hardtech device?” It can be tricky to answer concisely and clearly. Luckly, our Entrepreneur in résidence, Christian Beaubien, came across a fantastic quote in the book “The Heart and the Chip” (originally about robotics), which perfectly encapsulates what a hardtech device is. With slight modifications, this quote provides an easy to understand definition: “A hardtech device needs to be able to collect information about the world through cameras, microphones, force sensors, or other sensing devices (1. Sense). Then the device needs to be able to process this information, formulate a plan or response (2. Think), and, finally, perform an action (3. Act). A functioning hardtech device must satisfy all three of these conditions.” In short, a fully functioning hardtech device seamlessly integrates sensing, thinking, and acting into one cohesive physical system. 🚀What do you think of this definition? #Hardtech #Innovation #Entrepreneurship #TechExplained #Startups #Garageco
