✨ Trust-based philanthropy has become prominent in the social impact sector. Why? It shifts the balance of power. Instead of funders deciding how grants are spent, nonprofits—those closest to the issues—make the call on how to use resources to create change. 🤝 For some funders, this shift is uneasy. Relinquishing control raises questions about accountability and measuring success. These concerns have slowed broader adoption, even as evidence points to the model’s potential to make philanthropy more effective and equitable. ⚖️ This article is a must-read for anyone interested in the future of philanthropy: https://lnkd.in/gM-mA4AE This story is brought to you thanks to World Education Services's generous support and is, therefore, open to all to read. 🙌 #trustbasedphilanthropy #futureofgood #philanthropy #socialimpact #equity #funding #nonprofits #changemakers #community #sustainability #powerdynamics #innovation #impact #collaboration #accountability

Happy holidays! At Future of Good, we embrace an annual two-week organization-wide shutdown - starting December 23. 🤗 As a team, we acknowledge both the importance and privilege of pausing in today’s fast-paced world. 🌍 Rest isn’t about recharging for the next task—it’s about reconnecting with life’s natural rhythms, finding joy in its beauty, and rediscovering a sense of wonder. ✨ To all changemakers: your work this year has been remarkable. Transforming systems is not a quick sprint; it’s a lifelong journey. 💪 You’ve earned the right to rest deeply. Let go of the urge to optimize your downtime. Resist the pull to plan for the year ahead. Step away from endless scrolling. Instead, immerse yourself in real-life moments—stories, laughter, and connection. 🌱 You deserve this pause. Take it fully. ❤️ We will be back on January 6th - see you then. - Future of Good

#ImpactBrief | According to new research by The Fraser Institute, public participation in charitable giving is at its lowest point in twenty years. 📉 📊 The public policy think tank released The Generosity Index in early December. It measures the proportion of tax filers in each province who indicate that they have donated to charity and the percentage of aggregate income donated. 🏆 Manitoba topped the rankings for tax filers donating to charity, although Albertans were likely to make larger dollar-value donations. 💸 📖 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gdHmyvKm 💡 Did you know? My last post of 2024 is a recommendation of some great literature that were all illuminating, gripping, and most of all, taught me something new about the human spirit. And, a final word about rest... At Future of Good, we have an organization-wide shut down for two weeks. Although, this can be difficult and costly to implement for a number of organizations, our executive director Anouk Bertner reminds us that genuine rest is integral. As a team, we recognize the necessity but also the privilege of rest in modern life. The purpose of rest is not to recharge for work. Rather, it is to reconnect with the rhythms, beauty, and awe of life. A gentle reminder to changemakers everywhere: Your work was extraordinary this year. Systems change is a marathon, not a sprint. You deserve rest. Don't try to optimize your time off for personal growth. Don't use your time off to plan your work for next year. Don't spend it scrolling on screens. Lose yourself in the real life tales, laughs, and hugs. #rest #presence #wellbeing #goodreads #books #socialchange #systemschange #socialimpact #socialjustice #leadership

WORKSHOP ALERT! ✅ Building a Thriving Workplace: Wellbeing Programs vs. Wellbeing Strategies 46% of Canadian organizations have a mature, dedicated, and resourced wellbeing strategy. 55% lack a strategy but highlight wellbeing as a key priority and offer programs like mental health tools and wellness spending accounts. With an almost 50/50 split between a dedicated strategy and a set of supports, it can be challenging to determine which approach is best for your organization—a plan or perks. In this workshop, leaders will explore the costs and benefits of both approaches and establish a framework for exploring which is most effective for their organization. ------------- The 2025 Changemaker Wellbeing Summit returns, this time with a focus on equipping people leaders with the knowledge, skills, and connections needed to lead the future of workplace wellbeing. Questions are being raised about the future of Suncor Energy Foundation (SEF) after several long-time staff members left the organization in quick succession. Last January, the SEF emailed past grant recipients to inform them that Suncor was making changes to “ensure organizational resiliency.” That email also indicated the foundation planned to reduce the number of organizations it supported. Future of Good has spoken with several organizations whose funding requests were denied by SEF over the last eleven months. Some of these organizations had years-long relationships with the foundation and relied on its contributions for core funding.
