EllisDon Civil is proud to announce its first heavy civil project in Nova Scotia: the Musquodoboit Harbour Bridge Replacement Project. This marks a significant milestone as we continue to expand our civil operations into Atlantic Canada. Located on Highway Trunk 7 over the Musquodoboit River, approximately 40 km east of Halifax, the project involves demolishing the existing bridge and constructing a new 48m structure with structural steel I-girders, a raised pedestrian sidewalk, and a thin-slab concrete deck. To maintain vital connectivity during construction, a temporary detour road and bridge will be implemented. Work is set to begin in early 2025, enhancing connections across Halifax and Eastern Nova Scotia. Learn more, https://shorturl.at/5kAD6 Derek Love Shaun Stiles P.Eng

Stuff the Truck is back and thrilled to make an even bigger impact in 2024! This incredible initiative supported local organizations, including the Cowichan Basket Society, Nourish Cowichan, Hiiye’yu Lelum/House of Friendship, and the Cowichan Green Community’s Meals on Wheels program. Together, they helped local families across the Cowichan Valley. EllisDon was proud to be part of the effort and added a fun twist: a friendly competition among trades on-site at the Cowichan District Hospital Replacement Project to see who can raise the most pallets. Even better, EllisDon matched the total number of pallets raised by the trades to double the impact. We contributed 46 pallets—equivalent to $23,000—packed with essential household items such as flour, toilet paper, powdered milk, canned goods, and toiletries, helping to support families in need. As part of the Nuts'a'maat Alliance, huge shout out to all the trades building the new Cowichan District Hospital! For every new hire, we plant a tree. EllisDon is proud to continue our partnership with Project Forest, a non-profit dedicated to rewilding local landscapes and naturally capturing carbon. Together, we’re supporting the Siksika Nation Community near Calgary, Alberta, in a transformative project to restore natural infrastructure and combat the effects of climate change. Through our contributions, alongside other generous donors, 130,760 trees and shrubs have been planted, creating 27.8 km of new shelterbelts across residential and agricultural areas. In the next four years, an additional 800,000 seedlings will help bring vital green spaces and improve resilience to climate change. This initiative not only has an immediate positive impact on the community but also serves as a meaningful way to welcome new hires, aligning with our commitment to sustainability. Deck pour day! In the bridge world, this is an exciting milestone – and we were thrilled to share this incredible footage of the new Porcupine River Bridge near Timmins, Ontario. This new 48-metre bridge will provide a more direct and scenic route into Timmins, significantly reducing traffic on Carrigan Road, which served as the alternate route during construction. What makes this project unique? ✔️ Semi-integral concrete abutments custom-designed to fit the steep bedrock profiles. ✔️ Structural steel I girders, a thin-slab concrete deck, and metal traffic barrier railings for safety and durability. ✔️ Environmental stewardship: Construction was carefully planned around migratory bird nesting seasons and in-water work restrictions.
