🤝 Partnerships, JA Canada | Youth Empowerment | Startup Enabler | Marketer | Educator | MBA

Today, Aayush Sharma and I co-facilitated a workshop on Civic Agency and Climate Action as part of a 4-part CityShapers in Communities series by CityHive Vancouver. One of the activities we walked through was the “Social Change Ecosystem Map” by the Building Movement Project. The framework showcases “shared values embodied in the yellow circle in the middle and ten roles that people and organizations often show up in when they are participating in social change efforts.” ✊ I found myself resonating with the Weaver (I enjoy making connections) and Builder (I find it fascinating to develop and bring ideas to life) roles. This got me thinking about #SocialImpact and where each one of us contributes most meaningfully and how we collaborate with others as we seek to create change. At the same time, the exercise reminded me that no single person can do it all. It’s through partnerships and collective effort that true change happens. 🤝 Have you encountered this framework before? What role do you see embodying in the ecosystem? Would love to hear your thoughts! 🌎 #SystemsChange #Collaboration #SocialChange #Equity

Engagement, Empowerment, and Innovation I recently attended the CityShapers in Communities workshop, hosted by CityHive Vancouver in collaboration with Movement: Metro Vancouver Transit Riders, and it was such a valuable experience! . I’m always looking for ways to make community engagement more meaningful. This workshop introduced me to creative engagement strategies—like scattergories, Gamification, Dotmocracy, Rapid prototyping and "corner of the room" discussions—that made learning fun and engaging. The focus on empowering youth and ensuring every voice is heard really stood out to me. I’m excited to take these ideas back to my planning team, especially as we prepare for the Township’s OCP Update and Accessibility Plan in 2025. These new tools will help us create programs that are inclusive, accessible, and impactful. A big thank you to Aayush Sharma, Chloë Fraser, and Denis Agar for leading such an inspiring program—and to Indu Shaji and Chris for making the final project so much fun to work on! . 📸 Sharing a few highlights from the workshop—let’s keep building stronger, more connected communities! #CityShapers #YouthEngagement #CommunityPlanning #Accessibility #CivicInnovation

  • 🚀 CityHive at the IAP2 North American Conference: Building a Sustainable Future Through Youth Engagement 🚀 At October’s IAP2 North American Conference in Ottawa, CityHive led a powerful session on youth engagement for public and community engagement practitioners from across North America. Our workshop explored strategies for centering youth in civic processes to foster resilient, future-focused communities. Here’s what we covered: 💡 Proven strategies for integrating youth perspectives into civic and institutional planning to drive sustainable, long-term impact. 🛠️ Practical tools and engagement methods led by Executive Director Rowan Gentleman-Sylvester and Engagement Manager Miley Leong, designed to meaningfully include youth voices in public processes and build ongoing, reciprocal relationships. Our session wasn’t just a training; it was an essential dialogue on inclusive practices that can help municipalities, corporations, and nonprofits strengthen their connections with youth and expand their community impact. 🌟 Testimonial Spotlight 🌟 Tamara Scott from the City of New Westminster shares: "CityHive has been an invaluable partner in our Youth Climate Action Microgrant Project. Their expertise and commitment to a youth-led approach helped us reach young leaders across the city. Thanks to their support, these leaders are tackling climate change and feeling inspired to deepen their community involvement." Social purpose leader grounded in justice and equity principles

I'm so thrilled that this posting is up and I encourage those of you in the youth environmental/social justice/educational leadership space to consider applying, even and especially if you think you don't necessarily meet every criteria. I'm really proud to have been part of developing the shared leadership structure at The Starfish because I wholeheartedly believe that it's a more supportive, sustainable, and equitable way to lead organizations.
