  • PERMANENT FULL-TIME MANAGER, POLICE SUPPORT SERVICES (Competition 24-151) Position Overview The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Manager, Police Support Services. Reporting to the Director, Police Services, the Manager, Police Support Services is a member of the management team of the RCMP Nanaimo Detachment. The position manages the police records unit, reception and information services, operational and administrative support, accounting, and building maintenance functions, as well as activities related to custody of prisoners. The incumbent acts as liaison between the City and the RCMP on various human resources, financial, building maintenance, and administrative issues and ensures that all applicable City policies, contracts, rules, regulations, and agreements are administered properly. Qualifications Applicants must have a university degree in Business or Public Administration or related discipline from a recognized educational institution, as well as a minimum of 5 years’ experience in municipal administrative management, preferably in a police or related environment, including proven management supervisory experience. An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Ability to obtain and maintain RCMP security clearance is mandatory. Applicants must have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License. Additional Information This is a permanent full-time exempt position offering 35 hours of work per week, with the salary range of $121,565.71 to $129,325.22 as well as a competitive benefits package.   • Come work with us! Position Overview The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Building Official. Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Building Inspections, the Building Official reviews and processes building permit applications, ensuring that the design of proposed construction meets the requirements of applicable regulations. They inspect ongoing construction for compliance with relevant regulations and take action necessary to ensure all deficiencies and/or infractions are corrected. Qualifications Applicants must have an Interprovincial Trades Qualification in Carpentry or Plumbing or a diploma from a recognized technical institute in Building Technology and 2 years building design and construction experience. Applicants must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence, a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, and one of the following: - Level 1 Building Official – Successful completion of the Building Officials Association of BC (BOABC) Level 1 building specialization exam or successful completion of the Level 1 plumbing specialization exam. - Level 2 Building Official – BOABC Level 2 building certification and Level 1 plumbing certification. - Level 3 Building Official – BOABC Level 3 building certification and Level 2 plumbing certification. Additional Information This is a unionized position. A comprehensive benefit package is included. Under the general supervision of the Manager, Recreation Services, this position performs the regular duties of an Allocation Clerk in addition to providing administrative support and supervision to the Recreation and Culture facility allocations group. Qualifications Applicants must have a minimum 6 month Office Administration training program from a recognized educational institution (e.g. VIU or Sprott Shaw), and a minimum 2 years’ related allocation clerk experience, including 1 year related supervisory experience. Additional Information This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 35-hour work week. The hourly wage is $38.03, increasing to $40.03 upon successful completion of probation (Jan 2024 Rates).
