Happy Maple Syrup Day, especially to the one and only - Maple the Right Whale. Her name was inspired by one of her calves, Whirligig, named for the winged seed of a maple tree. Maple frequents the waters off Canada, where the maple trees that inspired this pairs' names are the national tree 🍁 However, we think Maple only has one thing on her mind today - maple syrup 🤤 On this chilly December morning, treat yourself to some warm pancakes and syrup!!🥞 #canadianwhaleinstitute #maple #maplesyrupday

Round 2 of Gulf of St. Lawrence predictions! The survey crew on the Marie Caro shared what they hoped to see during their August cruise and while not everyone got what they wished for, we saw some really cool things! Special shout out to the crew of the Marie Caro for hauling all the lost crab traps we found - to prevent whale entanglements! 💪 This footage was collected during collaborative survey efforts with @newenglandaquarium !

The right whales are continuing their long journeys to the calving grounds - and the first calf of the year has already been spotted🤩🐋 Right whale "Nauset" has had her fifth calf!
