Today is the third annual Ribbon Skirt Day in Canada. This is a day to honour and celebrate the resilience of Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people. Ribbon skirts symbolize identity, culture, and a sacred connection to Mother Earth. Honoring this is an important part of our commitment to creating spaces that respect Indigenous communities, and foster belonging. #NationalRibbonSkirtDay

Today marks the start of Kwanzaa, a week-long celebration of African cultural heritage. Each day, families light candles to represent the seven guiding principles of Nguzo Saba, focusing on unity, purpose, and growth. December 25th marks the start of Chanukah, an eight-night celebration bringing light to darkness. Chanukah is celebrated by lighting the menorah, playing games like dreidel, and enjoying traditional foods such as latkes and sufganiyot. BC Housing wishes everyone celebrating a peaceful and joyous Chanukah.

52 homes with supports are coming for people experiencing homelessness in New Westminster. With construction underway, these new homes will provide residents with a safe and stable place to live. The Lookout Housing and Health Society will manage the building. Staff will be on-site 24/7 to help residents with daily meals, life skills training, health care and addiction recovery services, and more. Occupancy is expected in 2026.
