Unveil the charm of Oita’s heritage with events held in stunning temple and shrine venues! From December 15 to 17, 2023, the UNWTO.TedQual Seminar brought Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, to life as a center of international exchange and cultural discovery. The event featured extraordinary temple and shrine venues, offering participants a truly unique experience. Usa Jingu Shrine's Sanshuden, which can seat approximately 80-100 people, served as the main conference venue, while regional study meetings were hosted at historic sites such as Senpukuji, Mudoji, and Futagoji temples. Each venue, located within an hour’s drive of Beppu City, provided an immersive journey into Oita’s rich spiritual and cultural landscape. Usa Jingu, the head shrine of over 40,000 Hachiman shrines across Japan, is celebrated for its elegant architecture and deep historical significance. Seminar participants gained deeper appreciation for the site through expert-led discussions that explored its cultural legacy, leaving a lasting impression on international attendees. As 2025 marks the 1,300th anniversary of Usa Jingu’s founding, the shrine remains a beacon of Japan’s heritage. The seminar concluded with an excursion highlighting Beppu’s unique natural features and traditions. Participants observed a demonstration of yunohana bath salt production using geothermal steam, an intangible folk cultural property, and took part in a lantern-making workshop that blended Oita’s traditional bamboo crafts with cutting-edge technology. Public keynote speeches and panel discussions also fostered meaningful cultural exchange with the local community, rounding out a truly enriching experience. https://lnkd.in/gKqcUa9U #Oita #eventplanning #meetingplanners #meetingsandevents #eventprofs

Host a samurai-themed banquet in the historic Okayama Castle keep! Located at the crossroads of the Chugoku, Shikoku, Kansai, and San'in regions, Okayama is especially famous for its fruits, including Muscat grapes and peaches, grown in the warm climate of the Seto Inland Sea, as well as the birthplace of Momotaro's legend. Okayama Castle, a beloved symbol of Okayama City, is affectionately called "Ujo," or the "Crow Castle," for its striking black exterior. From its keep, which features an irregular pentagonal shape, visitors can admire panoramic views of Korakuen Garden, one of Japan’s three great gardens, celebrated for its breathtaking seasonal beauty throughout the year. Last year, Okayama Castle keep hosted a memorable banquet as part of an international workshop. The event featured locally sourced cuisine and unique cultural experiences, including the chance to try on samurai armor, take commemorative photos, and enjoy engaging demonstrations from the Okayama Omotenashi Bushotai (Okayama Hospitality Warriors). Easily accessible, Okayama Castle is just a 1-hour 15-minute flight from Haneda Airport to Okayama Momotaro Airport, followed by a 50-minute drive. For those traveling by train, the Shinkansen from JR Tokyo Station to JR Okayama Station takes about 3 hours and 20 minutes, with a short 15-minute tram or bus ride to the castle. Accommodating up to 130 guests, with optional samurai-themed experiences, Okayama Castle offers a distinctive and unforgettable venue for banquets and events. https://lnkd.in/g-FrshDr #Okayama #eventplanning #meetingplanners #meetingsandevents #eventprofs

Indulge in culinary and cultural delights at a historic restaurant in Yokohama! Tanaka-ya, a refined ryotei restaurant established over 160 years ago, offers guests the rare opportunity to combine exquisite kaiseki cuisine with an authentic geisha performance. For details, visit the 【YCVB】 Yokohama City Visitors Bureau 's page! #Yokohama #eventplanning #meetingplanners #meetingsandevents #eventprofs
Step Back in Time: Discover Yokohama's Historic Tanaka-ya for an Unforgettable Kaiseki Experience with One of the City’s Only Geisha! Founded in 1863, Tanaka-ya has been owned by the same family for six generations. Once a rest stop for travelers journeying along the historic Tokaido Road between Kyoto and Edo, the restaurant’s hilltop location offered sea views now preserved in an ukiyo-e print displayed at the restaurant. This ryotei (a traditional Japanese restaurant) has hosted renowned figures like writer Natsume Soseki and Japan’s first prime minister, Ito Hirobumi. Having survived the Great Kanto Earthquake and World War II air raids, it remains the last ryotei of the 1,300 that once stood in the area. Today, guests are welcomed by the 5th-generation okami, Hiratsuka-san, who begins with a shamisen performance before they are guided to a traditional tatami room to dine. Tanaka-ya serves exquisite kaiseki ryori (Japanese haute-cuisine), featuring seasonal, locally sourced ingredients in adorned with seasonal touches like autumn leaves. Guests can choose from a variety of options, including classic set courses, hot pots, and premium beef steak. In addition to exceptional cuisine, Tanaka-ya offers a rare opportunity to enjoy a live geisha performance. Once home to over 70 geisha houses, Yokohama’s geisha culture faded as the city modernized. However, a resurgence in 2017 brought this traditional performance art form back. Visitors can now experience traditional Yokohama songs and fun party games like “Tora Tora Tora” (Tiger, Tiger, Tiger), a fun twist on rock-paper-scissors. Conveniently located near Yokohama Station, Tanaka-ya is perfect for post-conference gatherings and can accommodate up to 60 guests. Whether you're entertaining international guests or exploring Yokohama's cultural heritage, Tanaka-ya offers an unforgettable culinary and cultural experience.
