European Digital Innovation Hub Oceanopolis

The future of smart cities you say? I believe it is full scale implementation of digitalisation to speed up deliveries and increase productivity across a range of public services, whether it is welfare, education, permits or administration. In the 2024 SmartCitiesWorld trend report on "Transforming city life and operations through AI," Stavanger kommune is mentioned as a great example of how a municipality is using AI to save time and bolster resources. Stavanger, which is a long-term supporter of Nordic Edge is, according to the report, one of the first municipalities in Norway to build their own full scale data platform on Microsoft Azure. The platform enables amongst other things, self-service and monitoring tracking environmental and traffic data. This is something other cities both could and should emulate and scale in their own context. Particularly in a time of more strained resources! 🌿Building Smarter, Greener Cities Together! 🌿 This week we've had the pleasure of facilitating two workshops in Romania in connection with the #NOROGreenCities project where Nordic Edge is one of the partners, together with European Digital Innovation Hub Oceanopolis, DANUBE ENGINEERING HUB, CITI Cluster, and The Institute of National Economy – Romanian Academy. The aim of this project is to foster a transformative collaboration between Norwegian and Romanian partners to enhance urban sustainability and innovation. We are dedicated to develop and implement smart city solutions that address current urban challenges while anticipating future needs, thereby improving the quality of life for the citizens. In the workshops mayors and other city hall representatives from 6 different Romanian cities were present and took part in discussions on how local authorities can work together with public and private stakeholders, to tackle the challenges and opportunities of creating smart, sustainable urban environments. 25 deltakere fra NORCE Norwegian Research Centre, Vestland fylkeskommune, Digi Vestland, European Digital Innovation Hub Oceanopolis og ulike kommuner deltok på tirsdag i en workshop om kunnskapsbehov og samarbeidsmuligheter knyttet til bruk av KI-teknologi i kommune-Norge Det ble utforsket hvordan kunstig intelligens (KI) kan bidra til omstilling i offentlig sektor, med fokus på kommunenes fremtid. Thomas Myksvoll fra NORCE delte innsikt om hvordan KI-teknologier kan transformere kommunalforvaltning, mens Sveinung Arnesen belyste spørsmål om tillit, åpenhet og etikk knyttet til automatiserte beslutninger i kommunene. 👉 Høydepunkter fra diskusjonen: 🔹 Hvordan kan vi bygge tillit rundt KI i offentlig forvaltning? 🔹 Hvilke etiske rammer bør på plass før automatisering av beslutninger? 🔹 Hva slags kunnskap og samarbeid trenger kommunene for å lykkes med KI-prosjekter? Arbeidet her har identifisert viktige muligheter og utfordringer, og satt retningen for videre forskningsprosjekter og samarbeid mellom kommuner og forskningsmiljøer.
