I discovered music, or maybe is the other way around, music discovered me. Was born into a musical family thought they were not musicians, but love music just as much. My mom loved to sing and my father enjoyed listening to the sound of the big bands like Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Perez Prado, and more. Grandma bought my first guitar when I was four years old. They also bought little marimbas. Perhaps it was their appreciation for music that made them realize I had the music in me and made them support my music unconditionally. I sung all the time. The grammar school music teacher noticed my sense of rhythm and good intonations, so when he introduced me to the school presentation attended by the local city mayor, he said, "this kid does it all, he sings, dances, and hums melodies". I sung and dance The Summertime Blues en Español. I still hear the standing ovation I received that morning. My music teachers were the other kids in the neighborhood. We learned the tunes that came to El Salvador from England, Spain, and other Latin American countries. I was captivated by Led Zeppelin, Chicago, Hendrix, Cream, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. But the sound that got my attention completely was the Salsa from the Fania All-Stars and the blussy guitar of Carlos Santana on top of the congas of Mike Carabello and timbales of the king of Latin Rock, master drummer, Jose "Chepito" Areas in 1970 when I arrived in San Francisco, CA. It was hard to ignore the sound of full percusion that was all over the place in the Mission District where I grew up. I was distracted from studying english, at first, engineering and business administration latter. Exactly fifty four years latter from my first day at Samuel Gompers High School, on October 27, 2024 during a Landmark Education class, I discovered I don't have time to be distracted by my work. I'm now dedicate 80% to music.
