"State-of-the-art Learning Spaces"? Are We Really There Yet? The term gets thrown around a lot. But what does it truly mean? Shiny new tech? Flexible furniture? A splash of color? Not quite. State-of-the-art learning spaces go deeper. They reflect a school's educational philosophy. They empower students to learn in diverse ways. They foster collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. The Reality Check: Many schools claim to have "state-of-the-art" facilities. But the reality often falls short. Technology is misused. Spaces are inflexible. Learning remains passive. School Leaders, ask yourselves: Does your environment truly reflect your vision? Do your teachers embrace innovative pedagogies? Are your students actively engaged in their learning? Parents, here's a checklist: Observe the classroom: Is it adaptable? Does it cater to different learning styles? Talk to the teachers: Are they trained to utilize the space effectively? Ask about the pedagogy: Does it align with the environment? Look beyond the gadgets: Is technology integrated meaningfully? The Disconnect: Often, there's a disconnect. School leaders speak of progressive education. But the classrooms tell a different story. Rows of desks. Passive learning. Outdated environments. #Civom's Commitment: We believe in creating learning spaces that are truly state-of-the-art. Spaces that inspire. Spaces that empower. Spaces that reflect a school's unique vision. We don't just provide furniture and surfaces. We collaborate. We understand the language of holistic design. We help schools translate their philosophy into tangible environments. Ready to bridge the gap between vision and reality? At CIVOM, we applaud Education Design International (EDI) for raising this critical question: Are Zen Zones merely band-aids for deeper systemic issues within our schools? We believe the answer is a resounding YES. While Zen Zones offer a temporary respite from stress, they fail to address the root causes of anxiety and burnout prevalent in today's education system. This is particularly relevant in the Indian context, where the pressure to excel often starts as early as preschool, with three-year-olds being enrolled in coding classes. We need to move beyond quick fixes and rethink the very foundation of our learning environments. That's why CIVOM is proud to partner with EDI to create schools where wellbeing isn't an afterthought, but an integral part of the design. By collaborating with EDI, we bring our expertise in creating: Spaces that nurture: Furniture and surfaces that promote comfort, movement, and a sense of calm. Environments that inspire: Layouts that encourage collaboration, creativity, and connection. A holistic approach: Understanding the language of design to support the physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of students. Together, we can create schools where children don't just survive, but truly thrive. It's time to move beyond band-aid solutions and design learning environments that prioritize the wellbeing of every student. hashtag #wellbeing #education #design #schoolenvironment #stress #anxiety #holisticdesign #collaboration #studentwellbeing #India #civomlearningspaces #educationrevolution #civom
"Are Zen Zones just a band-aid?" Stress and anxiety in schools didn’t just appear out of nowhere—they are the inevitable result of systems designed to prioritize control, conformity, and competition over connection, creativity, and care. These systems focus on high-stakes testing, rigid rules, and standardized performance, all while ignoring the health and humanity of the very children they’re meant to serve. Enter Zen Zones: calming corners introduced to help students cope. But here’s the uncomfortable truth—Zen Zones are not solutions. They’re band-aids slapped onto wounds caused by the environments we’ve built. They don’t question the systems that create the stress. They simply help students survive them. What if we stopped creating environments that children need to recover from? What if well-being wasn’t confined to a single corner, but woven into every aspect of a school’s design and system? Imagine schools where every space was designed to nurture health, empower autonomy, and foster genuine connections. This image, taken at Curious School in Bangalore, is a glimpse of what’s possible when design becomes intentional. The thoughtful use of natural light, open spaces, and child-centered layouts reflects an approach that prioritizes well-being. While it’s clear that systemic change takes time, design is a powerful first step toward environments where children don’t just cope—they thrive. At Education Design International, we believe it’s time to ask hard questions: Why are we creating stress in the first place? Why are quick fixes like Zen Zones seen as acceptable answers to systemic issues? And most importantly, when will we stop patching problems and start rethinking schools as ecosystems of health and growth? What do you think—are Zen Zones enough? Or is it time to design schools where well-being isn’t an exception, but the rule?

Sometimes, the most incredible learning happens when we connect the dots between seemingly unrelated ideas. Today, on Kartik Purnima, let's explore a surprising example. Can you connect the dots between how Kartik Purnima, a significant Hindu festival, was used to bring a submarine back home in the Indian Ocean? While the specifics of such operations often remain shrouded in secrecy for strategic reasons, the underlying principle highlights a captivating intersection of cultural knowledge and scientific understanding. Let's go deeper: Connecting the Dots: Kartik Purnima: This full moon festival holds religious significance in Hinduism, but it also coincides with a natural phenomenon – an exceptionally low tide in the Indian Ocean. Low Tide: The gravitational pull of the sun and moon during a full moon creates a stronger tidal force, leading to lower-than-usual tides. This exposes shallow waters and submerged areas, much like a submarine landing site. Submarine Navigation: Submarines require specific depths and conditions for safe navigation and docking. Utilizing the natural low tide during Kartik Purnima provides a strategic advantage, allowing for easier access to shallower waters. The Power of Interdisciplinary Learning: This story highlights the importance of interdisciplinary learning – an approach that encourages students to connect knowledge and skills from different subjects. By breaking down the silos between disciplines, we can foster: Critical Thinking: Students learn to analyze information from multiple perspectives and make connections that might not be obvious within a single subject. Creativity: Interdisciplinary thinking sparks creativity and innovation by encouraging students to explore new possibilities and solutions. Real-World Application: Students see how knowledge applies to real-world situations, making learning more relevant and engaging. Is Your School Environment Conducive to Connecting the Dots? Are we providing students with opportunities to explore the interconnectedness of knowledge? Are we fostering an environment where they can draw connections between cultural practices, scientific phenomena, and technological advancements? At Civom, we believe in creating learning spaces that foster interdisciplinary thinking. Our flexible and collaborative environments encourage students to explore, experiment, and connect ideas from various fields. We help schools design spaces that break down traditional barriers and inspire a holistic approach to learning. Let's empower our students to become interdisciplinary thinkers who can navigate the complexities of our world and discover innovative solutions to the challenges of tomorrow. #CIVOM #CivomLearningSpaces #CivomLearning #CIVOMLearningTools #CIVOMIndore #CIVOMSpaces #CIVOMTeam #EducationMatters #JoinOurMission Education Design International Yogi Patidar Dr. A.P.
