"I started playing frisbee seven years ago when I was in grade 8. I couldn’t continue studying as my father passed away when I was young. I am the oldest of 5 sisters, and I had to take responsibility for their upbringing along with my mother, which is why initially there was some hesitation about me playing frisbee. Another reason why my family was reluctant was because frisbee is a mixed-gender sport. They had a lot of apprehension about me playing with boys. My coach had to visit my mother in order to convince her, telling her about my potential as a player. Segue to the present day with me being a coach at Fountainhead School since 2021, coaching the Gujarat team in 2023, and being a part of the Surat Ultimate Development for women and girls. The journey hasn’t been very easy, though. I used to find it quite challenging to play frisbee while studying and working, and balancing all three was difficult for me.I was only 15 years old at that time. I was also not the most confident person and would mostly stay quiet. Frisbee changed that for me. Not only did I start feeling confident about speaking up, but also felt inspired to take on other challenges apart from frisbee, like pursuing a computer course. It has taken me from Surat to Mumbai, Bangalore, and many other places. I used to feel scared about venturing out alone in Surat, but since I started playing, I have felt empowered to travel to faraway cities on my own for tournaments. In fact my most cherished memory is of traveling to Mumbai to play for the first time. I made a group of new friends who still keep in touch with me. I also have gained recognition in cities across the country. My next goal is to represent India. I have only watched those matches, never played in them. I know it would require a lot of hard work, and I struggle with that because I also need to run my house, do my job, and practice as well. But I am ready to take it on, and keep going forth in my journey." - Shraddha Chaudhari, Frisbee Player and Coach. #PlayWithUS

Q: I received a student visa. I originally planned to start my studies in fall, but I’ve now delayed my program start date until spring. Do I need another visa? A: An F1 student visa is generally valid for five years. Students holding a valid F1 visa may enter the United States even if their start date is delayed so long as they enter prior to the visa expiration date. Students don’t need to change their SEVIS ID number (the student’s unique identifier) if they are attending the same university. However, students need to contact their university to change the program start date on their Form I-20. The I-20 must be presented on entry into the United States, and students cannot enter the country more than 30 days before the program start date specified on it. #AskTheConsul
