The #5Whys is a simple technique for #problemsolving. It involves asking "why" five times in a row to get to the root cause of a problem. This technique is often used in the #automotiveindustry to identify and fix problems with #vehicles. For #example, let's say that a customer brings their car into a #dealership because the engine is making a strange noise. The #mechanic might ask the customer: 1. Why is the engine making a strange noise? 2. Because the oil level is low. 3. Why is the oil level low? 4. Because the oil is leaking. 5. Why is the oil leaking? 6. Because the oil gasket is damaged. By asking "why" five times, the mechanic has identified the root cause of the problem: the oil gasket is damaged. Once the root cause is identified, the mechanic can take steps to fix the problem.
