  • Bhutan, renowned for its pioneering concept of Gross National Happiness, is embarking on an ambitious project to create the world’s first mindfulness city, named Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). This innovative urban development aims to integrate principles of mindfulness into its design and functionality, promoting well-being through green spaces, walking and cycling paths, and community-focused activities. Spanning over 2,500 square kilometres near the Indian border, GMC is envisioned as an economic corridor linking South Asia to Southeast Asia, with a focus on sustainable business practices rooted in Bhutan's rich Buddhist heritage. As the country seeks to revitalize its economy and address challenges such as youth unemployment, this project represents a strategic move to attract investment and create jobs while fostering a lifestyle centred on mindfulness and environmental stewardship.
