M&A Masters, hosted at the Fitoor X Prayas Fest at Plaksha University, was an incredible experience! Last year, we at the Plaksha Finance Cell undertook an equity research project where I focused on analyzing the domestic defence industry. My research and predictions were published in the December 2023 issue of our newsletter, "Vantage." Now, as 2024 comes to an end, I am thrilled to share that my predictions have proven to be extremely successful and have exceeded expectations. The stocks I identified as a 'buy'—Cochin Shipyard Limited™ and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited™—have both delivered nearly 100% returns. Furthermore, the defence industry as a whole has grown approximately 57%, which is an impressive six times the returns delivered by the Nifty50 index over the same period. This outcome reinforces the importance of thorough research and sectoral insights in driving informed investment decisions. P.S. The Plaksha Finance Cell has concluded an exceptional inaugural year, solidifying its position as a premier platform for finance enthusiasts. Through a series of engaging workshops, insightful guest sessions, and immersive simulations, the cell continues to educate its members about the financial industry, investment strategies, and quant finance. Highlights of the year include hosting esteemed speakers from renowned companies such as Jefferies, Invesco Ltd., Razorpay and LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group). These industry experts shared invaluable insights into equity research, investment management, FinTech, and ESG investing, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the finance domain. Furthermore, the cell organised stock simulation competitions in collaboration with StockGro - India's largest social investment platform. These intense events witnessed overwhelming participation from over 400 students across the university and the country, fostering a competitive spirit and practical experience in trading. The event garnered the maximum participation across any inter-university event held at the university in the academic year. The Finance Cell's monthly newsletter, "The Vantage," garnered a substantial readership, offering a diverse array of content ranging from financial trends to equity research reports and personal finance puzzles. We would like to take a moment to thank the entire membership team at the Plaksha Finance Cell and the Executive Board for spearheading a highly successful first year! The club started with just 4 members and is now deemed to be one of the most active clubs at the university, hosting some of the largest events across campus!
