As we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we’re proud to share the inspiring journey of Eswar Kakarla—Advisor, Service Recovery. Eswar's story is one of determination, resilience, and the power of true inclusion. “I lost my vision at the age of three due to a medication issue. Despite severe hardships, I continued my education in my local panchayat school until class 5. For higher studies, I moved to a disability-friendly school, and eventually, I graduated with a degree in French from The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), which had a supportive environment for students with disabilities. During my education, I also received computer training to enhance my skills. In 2022, I was recruited to join the PhonePe CX team, this was a very happy moment for me and my family. Moving from my hometown in Andhra Pradesh to Bengaluru was a big step, but my parents were very supportive. Initially, I was anxious about how my disability would be perceived. Would my colleagues be accepting? Would the organization support me? Thankfully, my concerns were quickly put to rest. I was assigned a buddy who guided me through my initial days, ensuring I had everything I needed. The first three months had different learning curves, but soon, my targets were set like everyone else’s. The work environment was competitive, but in a positive way, pushing me to grow and excel. Within my first year, I gained valuable exposure to consumer payment issues and corporate processes. I was thrilled to be recognized in my team’s Hall of Fame for six consecutive cycles. This recognition reflected not just my hard work but also the incredible support I’ve received. The PhonePe office is designed with accessibility in mind—braille dots and voice assistance in elevators, tactile pathways throughout the office, and a culture that prioritizes inclusion. Our Training & Quality team provided three months of comprehensive training, equipping me with the skills and confidence to navigate customer queries effectively. What I value most about PhonePe is the culture of openness and equality. There’s no fear of hierarchy here. If I face a challenge, I can approach anyone, and I know my voice will be heard. This sense of belonging has been instrumental in my growth. I believe there should be no hesitation or preconceived notions when working with persons with disabilities. Today, we would like to share the testimonial of Akshitha Bollampally, a  final-year engineering student from ISM Dhanbad, who recently interned with our Engineering team. Akshitha shares her experience - "My internship journey at PhonePe was incredibly rewarding. I worked on impactful projects including a workflow management system, where I was involved in designing and managing workflows, including creating, editing, and managing transitions between various states. Another project I worked on was the JSON form builder tool using internal frameworks, which enhanced my understanding of JSON schema, dynamic form creation, and user-centric design. This experience not only enhanced my technical skills in managing complex workflows but also taught me the importance of ensuring the integrity and accuracy of state transitions in a system.  I am grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to such meaningful projects and look forward to applying these learnings in my future endeavors."
