Catalysing achievement of Sustainable Development Goals through co-creation of Digital Public Infrastructure
About us
Established in 2003 by Nandan Nilekani and Srikanth Nadhamuni , eGov Foundation is a philanthropic mission that exists to improve the ease of living for citizens. Our focus areas are urban, health, sanitation and public finance management. Our mission is to make sure that everyone can access services from their local governments with ease and transparency. We do this through our core offering DIGIT (Digital Infrastructure for Governance, Impact and Transformation), which is a digital public good. In other words, it is an open, interoperable free-to-use platform that offers solutions for citizens, first mile employees, administrators, commercial players and policy makers. It is made available to the federal government, states & cities for them to create programs and solutions for their contexts, in keeping with the federal structure of urban governance in India. DIGIT is also offered to commercial players, so that they can leverage it to build solutions and deliver programs working with governments. In run-time this translates into states, cities and commercials players using the building blocks from DIGIT to tailor solutions and programs that meet their needs and innovating on top of it to solve emerging problems. Over the last 20 years, eGov has partnered with more than over 3 countries, 2600 towns and cities in 16 states across India, and more than 16 crore citizens have benefited from its platform.

The first gathering for the Indian Public Finance Collaborative (IPFC), co-anchored by Centre for Effective Governance of Indian States (CEGIS), eGov Foundation, and Janaagraha took place in October. The IPFC aims to leverage India's vibrant public finance landscape, comprising organisations and individuals from government, academia, civil society, business, and media. This diverse ecosystem possesses deep expertise across multiple domains within public finance - from law and policy to technology, from design of public finance processes to fiscal responsibility and budget management, and from technology to implementation practices. At its core, IPFC attempts to create an inclusive and dynamic ecosystem that strengthens public finance in India, making governance more efficient, transparent, and citizen-centric. As a first step, a visioning workshop was held at the Indian School of Public Policy (ISPP), New Delhi and brought together 32 participants from 16 diverse organisations. The workshop is part of an evolving dialogue on IPFC, anchored in the principles of cooperation and shared ownership. The enthusiasm and insights shared during this day-long session have set the tone for IPFC's journey ahead. We extend our gratitude to all participants who contributed to this visioning exercise and look forward to strengthening India's public finance landscape, together. A special shoutout to Parth Shah from ISPP and the team Bulzzi for their support and facilitation. #techforgood #IPFC #PublicFinance #EffectiveGovernance #IndianPublicFinance Gautham Ravichander | Prashanth Chandramouleeswaran

Odisha’s journey in safe sanitation reflects what can be achieved through strong policies and effective partnerships. SUJOG-FSSM, built on DIGIT DPG, has enabled more efficient management of sanitation services in Odisha. Its scale-up through #UPYOG is now paving the way for other states to adopt sustainable practices for safe sanitation. At eGov, we’ve worked closely with partners to design and implement this platform while building local capacities to ensure it lasts. Collaborations like this shows the potential for practical, sustainable solutions that make a difference. Read more about this here: https://lnkd.in/gTzTy7bt #techforgood #sanitationforall #sdg6

𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Yesterday at Parvat Manthan hosted by the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), listening to the conversation between the champion who led the #FSSM implementation in Odisha and the partner driving its nationwide scale-up and encouraging other states to adopt was truly uplifting. It reinforced that scale is happening with collaboration and partnerships driving real change. Odisha’s journey in faecal sludge waste management is a powerful example of what’s possible with the right policies and collective action. Once grappling with untreated waste, the state operationalized 115 FSTPs and introduced SUJOG-FSSM, built on DIGIT DPG, transforming how sanitation services were delivered and safely managed. Today, this model is being scaled nationally through #UPYOG, led by MoHUA and NIUA, encouraging other states to adopt sustainable safe sanitation practices. You can read more about this journey here: https://lnkd.in/eve3s4cU and eGov Foundation's role in designing and implementing the platform in collaboration with partners in Odisha, while also building local capacities to ensure it scales and sustains over time. Designing for Inclusion: My IPMF Experience On November 15th, I completed the Inclusive Product Management Fellowship (IPMF), a program dedicated to applying inclusivity principles to real-world product challenges. Organized by Belongg, Dalberg, and Omidyar Network India, this six-month fellowship began with insightful sessions from industry experts, followed by an opportunity to build prototypes addressing inclusivity challenges in the products we work on. I focused on a challenge within eGov Foundation's DIGIT Health Campaign Management (HCM) platform, specifically: - Low literacy rates and linguistic differences faced by frontline workers in Africa - Issues arising from local dialects, slang, and phonetic variations lead to usability and data duplication challenges. The prototype aimed to simplify app usage for frontline workers while addressing these inclusivity barriers. Participating in the IPMF has helped me critically evaluate inclusivity in my design process and apply these learnings to create practical, impactful solutions. A big thanks to the Belongg team for organizing and supporting me throughout this program and to my cohort for their collaborative insights! #InclusiveDesign #ProductDesign #ProductManagement #IPMF #eGov #DIGIT

Thank you for all the congratulations! One year at eGov Foundation. One year in the impact sector. One year!???!?! Where did it go? This has been my first meaningful stint into the world of impact, after 20+ years of marinating in the world of advertising as it evolved from 2000 to 2022! The idea of "impact" always felt external—a metric, a measurable change, an outcome. But over this year, I've come to understand that impact is so much more than numbers and outcomes. It's personal. It's about transformation, starting within and extending outward. Here's a quick account of the year that was. #digitaltransformation #publicservicedelivery #equity PS - This photo was taken at a Fecal Sludge Management Plant in Odisha that uses technology to ensure safe sanitation. The FSTP is run entirely by women, and it features a playground and garden with some truly stunning flowers blooming around it!

Congratulations to anyone and everyone working tirelessly on prevention and eradication of Malaria in Africa as eGov Foundation and Malaria Consortium (MC) formalise their strategic partnership to scale health solutions in Africa. Last week an MoU was signed by Viraj Tyagi CEO eGov and James Tibenderana CEO MC. We at eGov are thrilled to partner with MC -the global leader in interventions including chemoprevention and vector control with the focus on strengthening of data-informed decision-making and adoption of digital approaches to community engagement. With implementations in Mozambique and Nigeria, this partnership aims to demonstrate how #DigitalPublicInfrastructure (DPI) can strengthen #healthsystems and deliver better outcomes for communities. At the core of this partnership is the Health Campaign Management (#HCM), powered by DIGIT DPG - a certified #DigitalPublicGood. Designed as an inclusive and scalable solution, HCM supports malaria prevention and other public health interventions like Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (#SMC), Insecticide-Treated Nets (#ITN) distribution, Vitamin A supplementation, and Azithromycin distribution. When i visited Mozambique earlier this year in May, post the first MC-DIGIT HCM implementation, it was a delight to meet Maria Rodrigues- National Director MC in Mozambique and hear about her great experience with eGov and DIGIT HCM. This campaign was important because the same Digital Infrastructure was reused (on which the BedNet (LLIN) campaign was delivered earlier) to deliver SMC campaign. I would like to sincerely thank Liberty Bunce Christian Rassi Tom H. who have played a critical role in nurturing this partnership right from the first implementation in Mozambique. Congratulations Once Again to All of Us. Revolutionising Healthcare: Karnataka’s Saura Swasthya Initiative prioritises the health of its people, while safeguarding the planet. This groundbreaking initiative aims to solar-power 5,000 health facilities across Karnataka, impacting over 3 crore people in rural communities. It exemplifies how sustainable energy can overall strengthen healthcare delivery and health systems! ☀️Economic Viability and Carbon Savings: Solar energy has reduced electricity bills for health centres by up to 70%, saving the state government over ₹100 crores in the next 10 years. All centres are free from expensive diesel generators! ☀️Empowering Communities: Reliable energy enables health workers, many of whom are women, to provide safer, more effective care. Patients benefit by avoiding long travel distances, saving transport costs, and reducing wage loss. ☀️Under the Saura Swasthya program, systems and processes that demonstrate ownership, management, and regular maintenance of the energy systems and appliances will also be created. ☀️The program will also improve technical capacity among health staff, improve the local technical network for solar energy, which will also have indirect impacts on local economies and boost adoption of solar energy across other sectors. ☀️Saura e-Mitra, a digital platform developed in collaboration with SELCO Foundation and eGov Foundation is another milestone. By enabling real-time monitoring of solar energy infrastructure in health centres, it ensures accountability in implementation, efficiency in operation, and the creation of long-term resilience for our health systems. As we look ahead, the Saura Swasthya Initiative stands as a model and testament to Karnataka’s dedication to innovation and inclusive growth. It demonstrates how energy and healthcare can come together to create a brighter, healthier future for all, driving social equity and progress.
