IIT Gandhinagar welcomed over 160 alumni for the 6th edition of Homecoming on December 21-22, 2024. The two-day event was filled with joy and nostalgia as alumni interacted with professors, explored the new campus, revisited the old VGEC campus, and enjoyed a special networking dinner with a bonfire. This year, IITGN also celebrated the Decennial Reunion of the Class of 2014. Many alumni visited the new campus for the first time and shared fond memories of their journey. A friendly cricket match between the Class of 2014 and the current students added excitement, with the students securing the win! The event ended on a high note with discipline-wise interactions among students, faculty, and alumni, strengthening bonds and creating new connections. Amit Yadav (BTech/EE/2020) and Akhilesh Ravi (BTech/EE/2021) recently visited IIT Gandhinagar and shared a memorable time reconnecting with the campus, students, and professors during alumni interaction session. “I came to campus after 2020. The campus has changed a lot for me. I really liked exploring it. I spent a lot of time with Prof. Jaison Manjaly, Prof. Harish Palanthandalam-Madapusi, and Prof Kabeer Jasuja. I really liked Prof. Harish’s new studio-style classroom where the focus is on learning by doing. I also got to meet with Prof. Nihar Ranjan Mohapatra, and Prof Emila and know about the new IC design program. Looks very exciting. I went to attend Prof. Nithin George’s class, but he recognized me and asked me to interact with students! It was a nice experience. I have taken this class and during that time attended similar alumni interactions. Felt good to give my ten cents back to the class. I am amazed that students are offered this course at an early stage now. Also, it was nice to see students aspiring for different options after graduation from higher studies to jobs.” shared Amit. He also enjoyed reminiscing with his batchmates at Panchayat Circle and Tea Post and spent a memorable night out with Akhilesh and a few first-year undergraduate students. ”The student told me explicitly to say- “The first year batch is great”. I don’t disagree based on my interactions. They reminded me a lot of my interaction with seniors and alumni during the first year.” Amit is a research scientist at Meta, working on multimodal AI. Akhilesh is a software engineer at Google. These visits deepen the connection between alumni and the institute, inspiring students and evoking cherished memories for the alumni.
