Harnessing the power of the creative process for healing and transformation of individuals and communities.

About us

Abhyaantar is a Sanskrit word that stands for ‘inner journey’ or ‘going inwards’. We work towards helping individuals and groups connect with their own as well as others’ inner source and unravel their authentic selves. Our practice is based on the principles and techniques of Expressive Arts Therapy (EAT), which believes in the power of the arts to give voice to suffering. The arts have been used as a medium of expression since time immemorial and their therapeutic value has been tapped in every culture. Creative expression aids us to become playful, experience emotional release and gain insight into our deepest feelings. We use a combination of visual art, dance, music, drama and creative writing therapies to enable our clients to explore and fully express various aspects of their emotional experiences. Our facilitators take immense care to establish an environment of trust and understanding, while maintaining confidentiality, in order to ensure your healing and personal growth.

🌟 Continuing our journey with Children in Conflict with the Law 🌟 As Delhi faced a scorching heatwave with temperatures soaring to 50°C, we introduced a priceless resource into our expressive arts process with these young individuals in early June. We explored connecting with water as a way to bring in relief, play, soothing and flow to their lives. What happened next was truly magical: an inner wellspring of inspiration, imagination, spontaneity, creativity, and lightness was unlocked. 🌈✨ Sometimes freedom can be touched even in a single moment of playfulness and flow. Some of the other inherent effects of these explorations include: - Nervous system regulation through breath work, mindfulness and body based experiences - Improved sense of self-worth that comes from creating a work of art - Opening up of a new world where mistakes are allowed, imagining new possibilities is encouraged - Release of unexpressed emotions in a safe and gentle way - A sense of camaraderie from working with others Stay with us on this special journey to gain more insight into the transformative effect of creative arts on mental health. 🌟🖌️ #ArtForHealing #CreativeArts #MentalHealth #ChildrenInConflict #ExpressiveArts #Wellbeing

🎨🌟 Over the past decade, Yuva Ekta Foundation (https://lnkd.in/gtHJjFQt) has been doing incredible work, empowering and rehabilitating Children in Conflict with Law (CICL) through their amazing Expressive Arts and Mental Health programs. ✨ Six years ago, I had the pleasure of joining this inspiring journey through their groundbreaking study to measure the impact of creative arts therapies on young offenders aged 16-21. As Co-Principal Investigator, over 18 months I studied the impact of the arts on the emotional landscape of these young individuals. Yuva Ekta team’s dedication and commitment to this work is awe-inspiring! (Puneeta Roy, bhanu mehta, Rijul Kataria) So, when asked to offer expressive arts sessions through their ‘Threads of Humanity’ program at a state-run home for boys, I jumped at the chance! Here's a glimpse into our initial session delving into the concept of safety. We explored what safety feels like in the body, what it means to experience safety in the world, practicing both offering and receiving safety from others, and how a sense of safety can foster cohesion in group interactions. Stay tuned here as we share more about our exciting work and the amazing journeys we embark on with these young individuals. 🌈✨

🌸 Exploring Self-Love through the Arts 🌸 “To love means to be there: to be there, first of all, for yourself, and for the wonders of life and the Earth all around you. Once you are truly present, you can offer that presence to those you love.” - Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh ✨ About this Workshop: ✨ Back in October 2023, nestled in the serene beauty of Bir, Himachal Pradesh, we embarked on a journey of self-discovery during a holistic retreat organized by LRX Retreats. Guided by the invaluable wisdom of mindfulness and the creative arts, the group delved into the essence of self-love and connection. We explored how this invisible thread of love ties us to ourselves, to each other, and to the web of life. 🌟 Join Us: 🌟 If you’re interested in these creative explorations, DM us! 💌 #SelfLove #HolisticRetreat #birbilling #CreativeExploration #ThichNhatHanh #InnerPeace #LoveAndConnection #expressivearts #expressiveartstherapy #expressiveartstherapyindia

  • 🌿 “If we surrendered to Earth’s intelligence we could rise up rooted, like trees. Instead we entangle ourselves in knots of our own making and struggle, lonely and confused.” - Rainer Maria Rilke 🌿 Discover the power of expressive arts therapy to reconnect with yourself, others, and Mother Earth. Open up your imagination and lean in to the wisdom of the senses on this profound journey of connecting with nature - within and without. 🌍✨ *About the Session: Expressive Arts Therapy for World Environment Day at Deer Park Institute, Bir, Himachal Pradesh (2023) #ExpressiveArtsTherapy #Healing #Reconnect #NatureWisdom #InnerPeace

  • *Throwback post* Simple creative explorations in a safe, non-judgemental setting create powerful opportunities for fostering playfulness, self-awareness, empathy, and connection among teams. In this workshop, we employed a combination of breath-work, meditative prompts and expression through visual mixed media to explore personal narratives. Some of the most fundamental shifts that these modalities bring about in people are: - A sense of grounding - Calming down of the mind - Becoming more present in the body - Experiencing playfulness and stress release - Accessing a new sensory language - A holistic expression of the inner experience - Improved self-awareness - Shifts in perception and new insights arising from this inner expression - An opportunity to witness and be witnessed in a new way - Practice empathy - Develop meaningful connections About this session: This was our expressive arts based offering for Publicis Sapient on occasion of their organisation wide Well-being Day event. DM us if you would like to create such an opportunity for your own team/organization as well! • 💛 This was a day I loved myself wholeheartedly! For being alive, to get the opportunity to do what I do…what I love! 🌈 I am stunned each time by the gentle power with which the arts open up new, unexplored dimensions for people. Liberating us from old, stuck perceptions and patterns. Instilling a spirit of play, bringing us closer to our unfiltered, authentic selves. ☀️ Upon concluding this recent workshop with a relatively large group of (close to 80) participants, my whole body was buzzing with energy for 3 full days. Yes, this is what I feel each time I witness how the arts move through, touch and transform people. It is in a certain shift in the air itself, in every sigh of surrender and release; in every first glimmer of a smile, a twinkle in the eyes from a dawning insight; In every applause for a resonating sentiment. In the lightness of head and fullness of heart that people feel as they walk out of an expressive arts based experience. 👥 And just as the arts bring people closer to their authentic selves, they are the perfect medium to bring people closer to each other as well. When we engage in novel, somatosensory, creative explorations together, we discover new ways of acting, responding to and making sense of each other and our world. Undertaken in an environment of safety and trust, this process is rendered even more powerful through meeting the most primary emotional need for any human being; the need to be seen, heard and fully received by another. By extension, fostering empathy and unconditional regard for others. *️⃣ About this session: An expressive arts based workshop for fostering well-being and meaningful connections as part of an organisation wide meet of Aangan Trust - An organisation working with government departments, community groups and civil society partners across India to make keeping children safe a priority for everyone.
