One of his favorite tricks? Inviting audience members to punch him in the stomach. Houdini would flex his solar plexus, hold his breath, and absorb the blow unscathed. But one night, backstage after a show, a fan approached him and delivered a flurry of punches without warning—no time to prepare, no time to flex. Houdini smiled through the pain, but the damage was done. The next day, he suffered excruciating pain, likely caused by a ruptured appendix. A week later, he passed away, surrounded by his loved ones. Out of all the death-defying stunts he attempted, it was this unplanned, seemingly trivial event that cost him his life. The lesson? Risk often lurks in the unexpected. We prepare for the risks we can see—the big, obvious ones. But it’s the “one-percenters,” the low-probability, high-impact events, that have the power to derail everything. What kept me moving through the doubts and long nights wasn’t a perfect set of credentials. It was passion. A deep, unyielding drive to solve a problem that mattered to me. That passion became the light in moments of uncertainty, teaching me that persistence isn’t just important; it’s everything. Along the way, I was fortunate to meet mentors, peers, and industry experts who offered guidance and opened doors I hadn’t even known existed. Starting without a formal background wasn’t a limitation; it was an invitation, an invitation to learn, to grow, and to innovate. I came to understand that entrepreneurship is less about where you start and more about where you’re willing to go, no matter how rough the path may be.

It’s been 5 days since Ratan Tata left us… And yet, his influence feels as if it’s only growing stronger. While the world remembers him as a business icon, what always stands out to me is something many people don’t realise that despite being at the helm of one of India’s largest conglomerates, he was never a billionaire. Why? Because he gave so much of his wealth away. Most of his shares in Tata Sons are held by charitable trusts, funding education, healthcare, and countless initiatives to improve lives across India. In an era where wealth is often a measure of success, Mr. Tata quietly redefined it. His success wasn’t in accumulating wealth, but in how much he could give back to society. One act that always moved me was how, after the 26/11 attacks, he didn’t just rebuild the Taj Hotel but he personally visited the families of all 80 employees affected by the tragedy. No cameras, no media, just Mr. Tata showing up to offer support and make sure they were taken care of. This is who he was, a man who believed in using his power and privilege for good.
