Shark week 🦈 ? For us, it was rather a shark year, as our fuel-saving #AeroSHARK significantly gained momentum in 2024. With three new airline customers and meanwhile 21 modified aircraft in service, we are now already “swarming” around three continents. As of today, our drag-reducing riblet films, jointly developed with BASF, have already avoided more than 31,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. But these figures will soon be outdated again, as 2025 is off to a good start with the next aircraft modifications already underway. So, stay tuned for more "sharking" 🦈 news! https://lnkd.in/ehd8_2k5 #keepyouflying #lufthansatechnik #sharkskin #makechangefly

Ensuring the security of Luftwaffe - German Airforce’s political-parliamentary flight operations: Today, we have been commissioned by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (#BAAINBw) to install a DIRCM self-defense system into the Special Air Mission Wing’s three Airbus #A350 long-range government aircraft. DIRCM stands for “Directed InfraRed Counter Measures” and comprises systems for protection against enemy guided missiles, usually fired from the shoulder (so-called Man-Portable Air Defense Systems, or MANPADS for short) and using infrared seeker heads. Such systems are already in use on various aircraft types worldwide and offer proven, high-quality protection for VIP and head of state aircraft as well as military platforms. “The Special Mission Air Wing is responsible for Germany's political-parliamentary flight operations. In view of increasing global instability and regional conflicts, the use of MANPADS by non-state actors, among others, poses a concrete threat,” said Michael von Puttkamer, our Vice President Special Aircraft Services. “The security situation demands that Germany ensures the protection of its own leadership. We are therefore proud of this lighthouse project.” The contract marks the world's first modification of an A350 with such a self-defense system. In order to keep availability for flight operations as high as possible, we will equip the three aircraft one after the other during their regular maintenance layovers. #keepyouflying #lufthansatechnik

Supporting two major aircraft type introductions at almost the same time: We are delighted that TAAG-Linhas Aereas de Angola has entrusted us with a Total Component Support (TCS) for their newly built Boeing 787 fleet and an Aircraft Production Inspection Program (APIP) for both the 787 and the Airbus A220 fleet also currently being built up. Thrilling announcement to wrap up the year: We are teaming up with Microsoft to drive the use of artificial intelligence (AI)✨💡. AI will significantly improve our efficiency and even lead to completely new offers. The joint initiative includes over 50 context-sensitive AI use cases based on Microsoft Azure AI Services and the Microsoft | Azure Cloud | AI | Partner. By utilizing large language models (LLMs) and a memory-enabled cognitive architecture, we will distill knowledge from vast amounts of data, hidden in unstructured data such as text in manuals. Other information hides in folder structures, images, or charts – and many more sources! Often, this unstructured data is interdependent or ranked. Using AI, we will be able to structure and process this data to effectively answer complex questions. One of the most impactful use cases we are going to tackle is the optimization of layover planning. This promises to significantly save costs as we aim to reduce ground time by five to ten percent. “We are excited about our collaboration with Microsoft,” said our CFO Dr. William Willms who is also responsible for our IT department. “This partnership will allow us to harness the power of AI to solve highly complex challenges, improve our operations, and deliver exceptional value to our customers.” Florian Deter, Managing Director at Microsoft Germany, said: “AI is the pivotal technology of our time. It not only enables incredible breakthroughs that could hardly have been imagined before. In its development, security and data protection have the highest priority for us and for Lufthansa Technik.”  #keepyouflying #LufthansaTechnik

Hands-on experience 🖐 – in the true sense of the word! Behold the latest creation of our fantastic Graphics Solutions team that, together with our equally fantastic Aircraft Maintenance colleagues in Berlin, recently turned this Lufthansa #A321neo into a breathtaking flying ambassador for the 25th anniversary of help alliance, the Lufthansa Group’s international charity organization. Equally breathtaking are the facts and figures of the project: -         297 handprints on the fuselage and the inside of the sharklets -         Almost twelve meters of lettering along the fuselage -         Approximately 100 production hours -         Around 350 application hours -         ONE extraordinary aircraft livery, promoting a very good cause! High five 🖐 to everyone involved in realizing this stunning project, and happy anniversary, #helpalliance! #keepyouflying #lufthansatechnik
