#AR NEWS ● Snap's new glasses ● Tiny eye tracking module w/ metaoptics ● New alternative to birdbath optics ● Goolton explores B2C with first glasses Snap Inc. announces new AR glasses with self-developed #LCoS and 46 deg FoV waveguide, 37 pixels per degree resolution, self-tinting lenses, Snapdragon AR chips. Audio and hand tracking interaction. Dev platform #LensStudio gets more #GenAI tools like garment generation and text-based lens generation. NIL Technology demonstrated the world's first #eyetracking module with only flat optics - or #metaoptics - at #CIOE. An amazingly tiny module. Take a look in the pics section! Small scale production in Switzerland, plans for mass production in 2025 in new Malaysia plant. NILT says it won't be more expensive than regular optics then. They already explore longer range versions, a couple of meters, to open up new use cases in the future. ams OSRAM showed a very small eye tracking module for with wafer-level optics as well. The same resolution: 400x400. A little bit "bigger". MIRA016 Phenix Optical Co., Ltd. wants to replace birdbath optics in entertainment focused glasses with interesting new alternatives. They say they can enable 50 deg FoV with a smaller #OLED panel size: 0.49 inches! The module for both eyes weighs only 13 grams. The weight of the glasses could be 40 grams. Smaller size and the user can wear the glasses closer to the eyes. The other module uses only 1 #microdisplay for both eyes which results in lower cost than BB! By mid 2025 the first glasses could be available to consumers! Beijing Ned Ltd.'s freeform prism optics are in Qualcomm's AR glasses reference designs for years now. Because they are more efficient than birdbath optics and the physical world is better visible! ASUS and startup ARknovv released products with the 40 deg fov optics. The bigger FoV version is in a new B2B headset! See it in the pics below. Goolton Technology Co., Ltd is a B2B company that has released a number of headsets for customers who use them for airplane inspection and similar proven AR use cases. But now they are getting ready to release the first glasses form factor product! They use a new holographic waveguide and green monochrome #OLED. Mass manufacturing in 4 months. 2 versions: Snapdragon or Unicom w517 chip! These glasses could open up new business use cases around the office.
