Concepts you'd like to see as future Digimon

Are there any animals, plants, characters, mythical creatures, etc. you'd like to see used as inspiration for Digimon designs? I like to design my own fan Digimon from time to time, and I particularly like trying ideas that haven't been used for official Digimon yet. After some time, I've noticed that there are quite a lot of interesting concepts that Bandai could be using, if only they weren't satisfied with just making another "dragon but with x element"... So here are some things I think would be cool to see as Digimon!

  • Pangolin
    • These little scale-armored cuties are my favorite non-feline mammal, and are just all-around very cool animals. They're sometimes confused with armadillos by laypeople, but they're really not related at all, and in my opinion armadillos aren't nearly as lovable. One good route to take with a pangolinmon could be to change their keratinous scales into metal scale armor, make them into a little knight or something. They even come with their own built in bladed weapons!
  • Archeopteryx
    • There aren't enough feathery dinosaur Digimon in my opinion. In fact, I think if you discount all the Bird-types (yes, birds are dinosaurs; the science on that is pretty well-established at this point), then the only example of a non-avian dinosaur Digimon with feathers is Allomon, and even then it just looks like it's wearing them rather than them being a part of its body. What better way to remedy this, then, than to use the iconic "missing link" between modern birds and non-avian dinosaurs, the archeopteryx?
  • Psittacosaurus
    • You may have seen the absolutely adorable reconstruction of Psittacosaurus from 2016 that went somewhat viral a couple years back that was touted as the "most accurate reconstruction of a dinosaur ever". Honestly, you wouldn't even have to change much about it to make it look like a typical Child Digimon; it's got big baby eyes, a little hint of a smile in its beak, the bristles on its tail could be incorporated into its attacks; maybe they could work like a porcupine's quills. I think a Psittacomon could make for a great main character Digimon personally.
  • Futakuchi-onna
    • One of my favorite youkai, and one that could make for a really cool Digimon... provided they didn't go the oversexualized/"female monsters must be cute and/or sexy before they can be monstrous" route. After the Xros Wars/Jintrix era, I'm a little worried what they might do with any lady youkai, but if done well it could be awesome. Hopefully more like Archnemon, Witchmon, or Eosmon than Junomon, Mervamon, or Belle Starrmon.
  • Kaguya-hime
    • Another of my favorite figures from Japanese folklore, and another one that could either be really cool or really gross, depending on what mentality the designer has. I'm imagining, like, a little alien princess lady in a bamboo spaceship and maybe some rabbit-themed details, since Japan loves their moon rabbits.
  • Japanese macaque
    • There is a dearth of ice-themed Digimon, especially annoying since Frontier established it as one of the ten basic elements of the Digital World. And I just love these cold monkeys; they have so much character in their flushed pink faces and their fur that makes them look like they're wearing fluffy parkas. I know we just recently got a monkey Digimon in Baboongamon, but I personally can never get enough primate Digimon. They're almost always a delight to me, whether they go the comedic route like Targetmon and Koemon, or the "cool" route like Hanumon and Gokuwmon.
  • A beetle that isn't a rhinoceros or stag beetle (or both)
    • Did you know that Coleoptera, the beetles, is the largest order in the animal kingdom, making up about 25% of all animal species? And yet, with the exception of Tentomon, Jewelbeemon, and maybe Searchmon, all beetle Digimon so far have been rhinoceros beetles and/or stag beetles? That's just pitiful, and yes, I know Japan loves their kabutomushi vs kuwagatamushi fights. But there's a whole gold mine of interesting and diverse beetle species out there that Bandai hasn't even dipped their toes into yet.
Those are just a small handful of ideas I've thought of. What about all of you?

And for the record, no this isn't me fishing for Digifake ideas, I just really like hearing from other fans about this kind of stuff... That being said, I can't promise you I won't try any of the suggestions in this thread :3c

Dunkleosteus
  • I would like to see how Digimon would use the concept of it. In nature it was an armored plated fish that used suction to bring in prey and eat them with a bite force rivaling a T-Rex, which makes it a terrifying predator to have in the seas. The bite force is already seen somewhat with Piranimon, but the armored plating of a placoderm is not something really touched on and could allow for an interpretation unique from it. For instance, they could play into that armor and go with a similar concept to SkullMammon where the bones form an armor around it, using its suction and bite force to bring in and quickly dispatch opponents.
Goblin Shark
  • While we do have a shark in Surfymon, it being a humanoid cyborg surfer kind of plays down that aspect of it. A more classic shark would be nice to have in the franchise and a Goblin shark would stand out due to its unique jaw and creepy features.

Khepri
  • A combination of two things I'd like to see from the franchise: More Egyptian themed Digimon like Anubimon and other insects that haven't really been touched on in the franchise. Khepri could fill both of those niches as we arguably only have one scarab in Kougoumon (which it could evolve from) and would be distinct from the other Egyptian Digimon already present in the franchise. He also could represent a different aspect of the sun as in Mythology he was the morning sun and associated with creation and rebirth, which would give him a different feel from Apollomon who's portrayed as a fierce battler.
Tardigrade
  • One of the world's most resilient creature, can survive many situations that would kill any other animal such as radiation, starvation, dehydration, extreme temperatures and even the vacuum of space. I would love to see how Digimon would take the concept of a creature that could survive so many hostile environments and adapt it to the series, particularly with how powerful Mega Digimon are portrayed as.

Carnivorus Caterpillar
  • We have a number of butterflies and moths, but not too many caterpillar Digimon and none as interesting as this little guy. From Hawaii, isolated allowed it to evolve into a unique niche where its gained the ability to wait for prey and then quickly snap them up. This unique trait could make for an interesting Digimon as you could play into its strong forelimbs and quick reflexes to make it into a Digimon that lures others into a trap.

Velvet worm
  • I've just always liked this animal for a very long time and it might even still be my favorite animal. They're both adorable (1, 2) and extremely interesting (1, 2) having the same sort of Tokomon feel with its own hidden teeth as well as hidden claws and sticky web shooters

Horror Creature
  • by horror I mean something that brings absolute unease by distorting what is known (1, 2, 3) or looking so unnatural it brings dread as a being who shouldn’t exist (1, 2, 3). I provide a lot of examples for this one as it would be very hard to nail down but one artist who does it perfectly and consistently is Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark illustrator, Stephen Gammell (1, 2, 3)

Biblically Accurate Angel
  • not my idea as I heard this one a few times before from other people first but yeah, I wish the angel Digimon had more abstract and creative physical forms. I would love to see these as mode changes such as MagnaAngemon Priest Mode (1, 2, 3)
edit: fixed my links

  • Birds-of-paradise, especially ones that have a "fluffy" tail.
  • Water Horse. It can be a gradual change to a human form when evolving in reference to it's shapeshifting ability. I'm thinking of something like horse -> centaurish kind of creature -> warrior.
  • Some kind of Albatross that could be the start of aquatic bird type digimon. Why Albatross? Because it has got the longest wingspan, which I think is cool.
  • An ice-themed Snowy Owl digimon. Just don't make it a recolour/variation of Falcomon.
  • A Mountain Goat, another ice-themed digimon.
  • I also would like to see some of the more abstract concept from the programming world, like Kafka or something. I think it's fitting since it's a digital monster in a digital world after all.

Aesir and Pesedjet: As rivals for the Olympus 12.

Greek Myth Digimon: Enough Child, Adult, and Perfect stages to fill up 3 vpets for the Olympus xii: monsters like a Medusamon, heroes like a Heraklemon, and even cultural stuff like Spartamon.

FoodDigimon: We have it as a category with almost no members. Softcreamon, Takoyakimon, Tonkatsumon etc seem like fun ideas.

Child-stage Angels: really want more angels in general but a Pico Angemon is something specific I’ve wanted forever. Just make Sparrowmon’s concept art canon, dang it!

Prehistoric Animal Digimon: it be nice to get more especially Perfects and Ultimates given that the majority of dinosaur Digimon are adults.

Witchelny: knights wizards archers clerics and fairies need more oxygen outside of the royal knights.

It's almost like my old topic and some other previous topics but more specific targets on personal preferences. Eh?

Dunkleosteus. Sounds like it's perfect for Coelamon's evo.

Orthrus. Sounds like it's perfect Adult level for Cerberumon however it doesn't seem to be possible for it to exist since it's "completed" sadly

Prehistoric animals are something interesting to widen its evo lines so largely because of their odd appearances also reptiles with furs I don't know what they were called but let's include that as well.

Outside of Kuwagamon/Kabuterimon and butterflies, there are huge varies of bug types. Like a creepy bug with many legs.

More Angels. However I'd really like to see their abnormal appearances instead of human types.

Rhinogradentia. Because of Patamon, Elecmon, etc with mixed animal parts in them so I want THIS

Lastly common animals. Squirrel and Giraffe.

Personally I think these concepts could be neat. I tried to avoid the "common" Digimon of the series. No Greymon/Garurumon/main protagonist lines.

BanchoTyrannomon - a digimon that represents a divergence from the standard line for Tyrannomon. Instead of (Dark)Tyrannomon -> MetalTyrannomon -> RustTyrannomon you can do (Dark)Tyrannomon -> MasterTyrannomon -> BanchoTyrannomon. Plus looking at DarkTyrannomon X, I think the design could be really cool.

BanchoSilphymon: I'm just picturing Silphymon with a badass coat and some darker coloration.

BanchoOgremon: Picture Ogremon X but dialed/cleaned up a bit with a bancho coat. Even if you took _exactly_ that image and gave it a coat it would fit pretty well.

BanchoAngemon/Devimon: We've seen so much of these guys and so many variants, but it's all basically more of the same. Either a holier version of Angemon or an eviler version of Devimon. What about some moral ambiguity? A Devimon that loves fighting for a challenge instead of conquering. An Angemon that fights against blind dogma.

BanchoHackmon: Instead of Hackmon becoming armored shiny Jesmo he folllows Gankoomon's example and becomes a wandering rebel badass.

BanchoRenamon: Like with BanchoLilimon I think this could be a cool subversion of the expected Mega. Instead of Sakuyamon's spiritual power BanchoRenamon represents Renamon's close-combat abilities.

BanchoMeramon: I just wanna see a cross between Meramon and SkullMeramon with a coat.

BanchoEtemon: Punk Rock Etemon.

BanchoMyotismon: Hellsing version of Myotismon.

BanchoPaildramon: Wild west Paildramon. This is the one I'm most cold on though since it breaks my original premise of no main character mons. I just wanted a Veedramon/ExVeemon to play counterpart to BanchoStingmon and subvert the Imperialdramon/UlforceVeedramon types.

Personally, I prefer Duskmon and Velgmon over Lowemon and KaiserLeomon, and I think there's some untapped potential in the Spirits of Darkness having two states. Like the rest of the villain Hybrids, I really hope they release a Dusk/Velg fusion at some point. I don't see all the elements getting transcendent forms, since KaizerGreymon and MagnaGarurumon are combinations of all the Spirits anyway (though I did make a thread a few years back asking about the potential for other Spirit combinations with the other elements as the dominant one), but I did ponder over what would happen if the Spirits were to combine while the Spirits of Darkness were still corrupted. Imagine a corrupted counterpart to MagnaGarurumon, which could then go on to form a corrupted version of Susanoomon (though hopefully something more unique than just "BlackSusanoomon"). This in itself could give the Hybrids just the slightest more variety on what routes they could potentially take, rather than have it always be "They all combine to Susanoomon, the end".

FoodDigimon: We have it as a category with almost no members. Softcreamon, Takoyakimon, Tonkatsumon etc seem like fun ideas.
Come to think of it, they could stand to give ReverseWeddinmon a proper introduction. Maybe it could be an Ultimate form for this sorely lacking group.

Speaking of groups, I wonder if they could make Slime Digimon at literally any stage higher than a BabyI. I guess the idea is that Slimes are basically BabyIs because of their soft bodies. However, Dragon Quest manages to do some crazy stuff with their Slimes, which is pretty ironic for the series that pretty much established the trope for slimes as bottom-tier EXP-fodder in the first place.

Child-stage Angels: really want more angels in general but a Pico Angemon is something specific I’ve wanted forever. Just make Sparrowmon’s concept art canon, dang it!
Yeah, they are pretty lacking. Not helping is the fact that Lucemon is constantly portrayed as a special Digimon with Perfect or Ultimate-tier stats despite its actual stage. It seems like the closest thing we get to true Child-level angels are Holy Beasts that eventually become angels.

Kalimon - Kali (/ˈkɑːliː/, Sanskrit: काली, Bengali: কালী, IAST: Kālī), also known as Kālikā (Sanskrit: कालिका) or Shyāmā (Bengali: শ্যামা) or Kaliamman (Tamil: காளியம்மன்), is a Hindu goddess. Kali is the chief of the Mahavidyas, a group of ten Tantric goddesses who each form a different aspect of the mother goddess Parvati.

PolarBearmon - The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is a hypercarnivorous bear whose native range lies largely within the Arctic Circle, encompassing the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and surrounding land masses. It is the largest extant bear species, as well as the largest extant land carnivore. (Bearmons Perfect)

Kistunemon - Kitsune (, キツネ, IPA: [ki̥tsɯꜜne] (listen)) in the literal sense is the Japanese word for fox. Foxes are a common subject of Japanese folklore; in English, kitsune refers to them in this context. Stories depict legendary foxes as intelligent beings and as possessing paranormal abilities that increase as they get older and wiser. According to Yōkai folklore, all foxes have the ability to shapeshift into human form. While some folktales speak of kitsune employing this ability to trick others – as foxes in folklore often do – other stories portray them as faithful guardians, friends, lovers, and wives.

Lokimon - Loki (Old Norse: [ˈloki], Modern Icelandic: [ˈlɔːkɪ], often Anglicized as /ˈloʊki/) is a god in Norse mythology. Loki is in some sources the son of Fárbauti and Laufey, and the brother of Helblindi and Býleistr.

Bishamon - Bishamon, is one of the Seven Gods of Fortune. He is officially a goddess of war and warriors.

I wouldnt mind seeing more App centered mons, could be fun to see a minecraft referenced AppMon.

I posted this the other day; a Jerboa would be good, because it already looks a bit like Digimon. Kinda cute, but also weird.

Is that what that is? I see how Nack/Fang is supposed to be. ...So yeah. I'll agree with you on that.

There are definitely some Digimon I'd like to see created, though to list them all would probably take a long time! But for starters some concepts I'd like to see them explore:

  • Anguiped - a creature with a rooster's head and snakes for legs. Perhaps an interesting Perfect for Cockatrimon?
  • Basilisk - in keeping with the same vein of roosters and serpents, could be the final form of the Cockatrimon line. Especially fitting given its powers of petrification, and likewise with the Basilisk's ability to kill with its eyes.
  • Chupacabra - a bloodsucking vampire that could be described as either reptilian or sort of a canine; could be an evolution for Sangloupmon.
  • Yali - a creature that's a cross between elephant, horse and lion with a serpent's tail. Maybe another entry in the Chimairamon family?
  • Kraken - most likely part of an Octomon line, or even Dagomon/MarinDevimon.
  • Apep - the enemy of the god Ra, usually depicted as a giant snake or crocodile. Really, any Egyptian deity would be a welcome addition in my books though.
  • Snow Lion - could be a Perfect for Shisamon

We already have the Tree of Life in Digimon (Sephirothmon), but I would like Sephiras to be added as well, both normal (like Binah, Chesed, Kether or Netzach) as well as reversed (like Thaumiel, Sathariel, Nehemoth or Harab Serap).

@VanChizzle Panjyamon exists.
I also agree that we need more obscure figures from world mythology as Digimon.

Freyamon - Freya, a Norse goddess of Fertility and Love, also leader of the Valkyries. Could be an alternate Mega for Silphymon or maybe Angewomon?
Morrigamon - Morrigan, an shape-shifting Irish goddess also known as the Phantom Queen. Alternate Mega for LadyDevimon or Crowmon?
Chernomon - Chernobog, Slavic deity of darkness and evil, often compared to Satan. Maybe a servant of the Demon Lords?
Tiamamon- Tiamat, a primordial dragon goddess associated with saltwater and chaos in Mesopotamian mythology. If we needed a FIFTH Great Dragon, it would be her!
Apuchmon - Ah Puch, Mayan god of death and lord of the Mitnal, the deepest pit of Maya hell. Definitely could be a major story arc villain.
Samdimon - Baron Samedi, Haitian voodoo god said to stand at the crossroads of life and death. Could be an interesting Mega for Wizardmon
Pelemon- Pele, Hawaiian volcano goddess. Could be a Chosen's Mega form.

I like to see squirrel rookie Digimon and more Dinosaur/Prehistoric creatures like.

Risumon - Squirrel (Rookie)
Chopuumon - Baby T-rex or Small Allosaurus (Rookie)
Protoceramon - Protoceratops (Rookie)
Deinomon - Deinonychus (Champion)
Giganotomon - Giganotosaurus (Mega)
Amargamon - Amargasaurus (Ultimate)
Styracomon - Styracosaurs (Mega)
Ultrasaurumon - Ultrasaurus (Mega)
Mosamon - Mosasaurus (Mega)
Megatheriummon - Megatherium (Ultimate)
Phorusmon - Phorusrhacos (Ultimate)

And more plant Digimon.

Vinemon (Ultimate)
Violetmon (Mega)
Biolantemon (Mega)
