10 killed after small plane crashes in Brazil's Gramado

A small plane crashed into a Brazilian town that's popular with tourists on Sunday, killing all 10 passengers on board and injuring more than a dozen people on the ground, Brazil's Civil Defense Agency said. The agency in a post on X said the plane hit the chimney of a home and then the second floor of a building before crashing into a mobile phone shop in a largely residential neighbourhood of Gramado. More than a dozen people who were on the ground were taken to hospitals with injuries including smoke inhalation, with two said to be in critical condition.

Russia's Kazan airport has temporarily halted flight arrivals and departures, Russia's aviation watchdog Rosaviatsia said via the Telegram messaging app on Saturday, following a Ukrainian drone attack on the city. Russian state news agencies reported the drone attack on a residential complex in Kazan. The TASS agency said eight drone strikes had been recorded, including six on residential structures. There were no casualties reported, agencies said, citing local authorities. The Russian authorities also claimed to have shot down Ukrainian drones.

3 Hindu temples vandalised in Bangladesh, 1 arrested

In fresh incidents, miscreants have vandalised eight idols in three Hindu temples in Bangladesh's Mymensingh and Dinajpur over two days, a media report said on Friday. Police have arrested one person in connection with vandalism at one of the temples, The Daily Star newspaper reported. These are the latest in a series of incidents against the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh. In Mymensingh's Haluaghat sub-district, three idols of two temples were vandalised early Thursday and Friday. Quoting temple sources and locals, Abul Khayer, officer-in-charge (OC) of Haluaghat Police Station, said miscreants ransacked two idols of Bonderpara Temple in the Shakuai union of Haluaghat in the early hours of Friday.

2 dead, over 60 injured after driver rams into German Christmas market

At least two people, including a child, were killed and over 60 people were injured as a car drove into a crowd at a Christmas market in Germany's Magdeburg on Friday. German police have arrested Taleb, a 50-year-old doctor from Saudi Arabia, who they say was driving the car. Notably, earlier reports claimed that 11 people were killed in the attack, but officials later confirmed that there had been only two deaths so far. The German Police suspected that the vehicle contained an explosive device, news agency Reuters reported, citing local broadcaster. However, they didn't find any explosives inside the car.

At least two people, including a young child, were killed, and over 60 others injured when a Saudi Arabian man living in Germany drove an SUV at high speed through a crowd of revellers at a Christmas market in Magdeburg. The incident occurred at around 7.00 pm local time. CCTV footage shows the man driving through the market for over 400 meters, striking several people. The suspect, identified as Taleb A., a 50-year-old medical doctor from Saudi Arabia residing in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt, has been arrested, according to regional officers. Another video showed the driver's arrest, with police aiming their handguns and shouting, "Lie down, hands on your back, don't move!" at the bearded man wearing glasses, who was lying on the ground next to the heavily damaged vehicle.
