If you are using Mathigon as a teacher in classrooms, we have some big news. In our latest update, we’ve added one of the most requested new features: teacher and parent accounts!
When you create a new account at mathigon.org/signup, you can now choose between three different account types:
If you already have a Mathigon account, you can go to mathigon.org/settings and convert your existing account (as long as you are at least 16 years old):
As a teacher or parent, you get assigned a unique, 8-digit Class Code, which you can use to link students to your account. Students can enter this class code when they sign up for a new account, or they can add it to their existing account in the sidebar of the student dashboard:
Once students link their accounts, they will start appearing on your teacher or parent dashboard. You can see their progress on individual courses or chapters, as well as how much time they have spent working on Mathigon during the last week:
(The parent dashboard looks slightly different, but contains the same data).
You can also import a student roster from Google Classroom. We will create new Mathigon accounts for all your students, or link them to your dashboard if they already have an account.
We now also support restricted accounts for students aged younger than 13. In this case, we collect no personal information except for their date of birth and the email address of a guardian. Students sign up with a username, rather than an email address.
After a student signs up for a restricted account, we send an email to their parent or guardian, who has seven days to approve their child’s account — otherwise, it is automatically deleted. If the guardian email address corresponds to an existing parent or teacher account, we will automatically add the new student to your dashboard.
This is only the very beginning of our support for teachers and parents, and you can look forward to many other features in the coming weeks, including:
- Multiple classes for a single teacher,
- Setting assignments,
- More detailed analytics and action items for teachers, and
- Additional tools for teachers to manage their student accounts, including resetting their passwords.
