Indeed he has, ending an eight-match losing streak against world number one Novak Djokovic to win a Masters Series title in Montreal at the weekend. Elsewhere, he secured a place in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters last night with a win over Mardy Fish, in the latest sign preparations for the US Open latest this month are going well. But he's also making headlines off the court today.

Why's that?

The Daily Telegraph reports the canny Scot has been adding to his burgeoning business empire, making investments in three UK start-ups through crowdfunding platform Seedrs. He's put undisclosed sums into Tossed, the salad bar chain, 3D virtual reality shop company Trillenium, and the Fuel Ventures Fund, the venture capital outfit founded by serial entrepreneur and investor Mark Pearson.

Is he out of his comfort zone?

Apparently not: as he told Business Life in May, he has "already been investing in startups through a crowdfunding platform". Management Today reported in June he had joined the advisory board of Seedrs, providing the firm with a celebrity endorsement and also a source of "advice on working with health, sport and wearable technology startups".

So he's becoming an entrepreneur?

He's certainly building up his business interests. He also has his own management company, 77, which the Telegraph reckons is now worth around £10m after "signing lucrative sponsorships". He also bought Cromlix House in 2013, a Victorian mansion in Kinbuck, Perthshire, where he and wife Kim Sears held their wedding reception – and turned it into a luxury hotel.

Is this his future beyond tennis?

He told Business Life that when he's retired he doesn't want to be one of the ex-players who continue on the circuit in champions tour events and that he'll do "other stuff" instead. He said he doesn't have a plan, but as a multi-millionaire with a diverse portfolio he won't be short of options.
